Requirements
  • JCAHPO Certification at the Ophthalmic Assistant level.
  • If candidate does not have the certification must obtain within one (1) year of hire as Ophthalmic Assistant.
  • Current certification in a related field considered for substitution. This substitution is made on a case-by-case basis. Examples of acceptable certificates are optometry, surgical technology, or foreign medical graduate with experience in Ophthalmology.
  • Current CPR Certification.
Responsibilities
  • Performs and accurately documents intake patient interview to include chief complaint and history of present illness; Review of Systems; past, family, medical and social history; patient medication list.
  • Performs under direction of an ophthalmologist basic level ophthalmic screening procedures as outlined by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology to include Snellen visual acuity; automated lensometry, refractometry, and keratometry; automated visual field testing; corneal topography; measurement of intra-ocular pressure using Tonopen; contact lens instruction.
  • Performs routine patient care under the direction of an ophthalmologist to include measurement of height, weight, temperature and blood pressure; and point of care blood glucose testing and urine pregnancy testing.
  • Performs routine patient care under the direction of an ophthalmologist to include measurement of height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure; point of care blood glucose testing and urine pregnancy testing.
  • Under direction of physician and by physician order, instills diagnostic eye drops.
