  • Strong scriptwriting and storyboarding capabilities are required.
  • Excellent research, organization, and time-management skills are required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of professional editorial practices and processes is required.
  • An understanding of analytics and content-performance metrics is required.
  • The ability to travel locally to project and event locations is required.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively is required.
  • The ability to work flexibly and efficiently without compromising quality or accuracy is required.
  • The role may require evening or weekend overtime for university events.
  • Hiring is contingent on successful completion of a background check.
  • Staff must deliver services from the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia, or work on-site at the university.
Responsibilities
  • Produce short- and long-form video, web and social-media video assets, and other multimedia content.
  • Plan, produce, edit, and deliver video and digital content supporting university strategic priorities, including enrollment, retention, university reputation, academic profile, research, scholarship, and community engagement through storytelling and visual composition.
  • Develop content ideas and collaborate with University Communication and Marketing colleagues to develop stories and video content supporting university priorities, reputation, enrollment, retention, core functions, and key messages.
  • Coordinate, direct, and film event coverage, interviews, b-roll, and promotional content.
  • Manage video production from pre-production through post-production, including concepting, planning, producing, shooting, interviewing, editing, mixing, color correction, and incorporating music, graphics, and captions.
  • Manage post-production editing and mixing to support clarity, emotional impact, and audience retention.
  • Optimize final cuts for different platforms, including the correct aspect ratios and lengths, and attention-grabbing edits.
  • Create multiple edits and formats from one core piece of footage and leverage AI-assisted creative tools.
  • Manage multiple assignments, including short clips, quick edits, and longer-term projects.
  • Tag, title, organize, and store videos appropriately.
  • Collaborate with the internal University Communication and Marketing team to shape multimedia messaging aligned with brand goals and maintain consistency.
  • Work with campus colleagues to create video content that supports their project goals.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders to facilitate video-asset sharing across the university.
  • Coordinate regular meetings and interactions with videographers and other campus digital creators.
  • Create a shared video editorial calendar.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Four to six years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Videography experience with Canon DSLR and RED digital cameras is preferred.
