About the job

Requirements
  • Initial experience in Tier 1 or Tier 2 consulting, high-growth startups—ideally in operations or process optimization—or project management.
  • A completed degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience or strong interest in data analysis, automation, and artificial-intelligence or large-language-model agents, including Python, application programming interfaces, and handling large datasets.
  • Strong numerical and data understanding, with the ability to investigate data-quality problems systematically and analytically.
  • Interest in developing deep expertise in a complex, highly regulated field; prior energy-industry knowledge is a plus but not required.
  • A structured and conscientious working style, including checking whether results are substantively correct.
  • Ownership and autonomy in taking responsibility for an area.
  • Fluency in German and English.
  • Based in Berlin or willing to relocate to Berlin.
Responsibilities
  • Analyze large datasets for patterns, outliers, and recurring root causes, and turn individual cases into systematic insights.
  • Build artificial-intelligence agents that independently diagnose errors and suggest or directly implement solutions.
  • Act as the functional driver of the internal metering-operations software by identifying gaps from daily operations, specifying improvements, and bringing them into the product.
  • Ensure energy data is ready for billing each month by resolving incomplete, inconsistent, or delayed data.
  • Resolve cases directly before delegating them in order to understand the underlying causes and automate them.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the regulated energy-data field.
  • Serve as the central person for data matters, internally for project and billing teams and externally for network operators and market partners, including prioritization, deadlines, and escalations.
  • Build documentation, clear processes, and repeatable workflows where knowledge currently resides with individuals.
  • Train interns and working students and support them until they can work independently.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior knowledge of the energy industry.

About the company

VREY is a Berlin PropTech company that helps landlords enable solar power for multi-family buildings. It handles planning, installing photovoltaic systems, and the operational setup, including a digital platform that automates legally compliant billing to tenants. As a metering point operator (wMSB), it also manages contracts with other energy providers, removing the supplier obligation from landlords and allowing tenants to buy solar energy directly (potentially lowering bills by up to 20%). Its goal is to scale communal solar use, support building decarbonization, and increase property value through tenant-accessible clean energy.

What believers are saying

  • VREY closed a €3.3 million seed round on April 23, 2026.
  • VREY reported a three-digit project pipeline across all 16 German federal states.
  • Germany's §42b framework reduces landlord supplier obligations, expanding VREY's addressable market.

What critics are saying

  • metergrid raised €10 million in January 2026, crushing VREY's financing disadvantage.
  • §42b EnWG still excludes subsidies, squeezing VREY margins and slowing landlord adoption.
  • If tenant churn or project delays hit, VREY's 20-person team burns seed capital fast.

What makes VREY unique

  • RE Joule GmbH pairs certified smart metering with automated billing for §42b EnWG.
  • VREY targets Germany's underserved multi-family solar market, not single-family rooftop installs.
  • Founders Julius Pahmeier and Cedric Jaeger launched VREY in Berlin in 2024.

VREY raises $3.7M to bring solar power to urban multi-family buildings

Berlin-based startup VREY has secured €3.3 million in seed financing to scale its solar power solutions for multi-family homes. The company specialises in bringing photovoltaic systems directly to urban residential buildings. VREY is already active in over 200 buildings, demonstrating early traction in the multi-family housing sector. The funding will support the company's expansion efforts as it works to increase solar power adoption in urban residential properties. The investment highlights growing interest in decentralised renewable energy solutions for apartment buildings, where traditional solar installations have historically been more challenging to implement compared to single-family homes.
