The merger combines Revel's operating experience with Voltera's development pipeline and customer relationships. The companies say the goal is to build charging sites specifically designed for commercial operations. Incoming Voltera CEO Frank Reig said both companies have spent years building charging infrastructure for fleet operators in dense cities and that combining forces is the "natural next step" to scale faster in key markets. The merger would create a major player in the market for charging commercial fleets as cities push taxi operators to switch to reduce carbon emissions. The number of available chargers has been a key bottleneck for EV adoption, with demand expected to grow as robotaxi companies expand commercial services across the U.S. this year. Private equity group EQT AB, an existing shareholder of Palo Alto, Calif.-based Voltera, will be the majority owner of the combined company.
