Verizon launches brand new AI training programme.

Verizon launches brand new AI training programme. Verizon has recently launched a $70 million AI training programme for job seekers, early-career professionals and small businesses. This move is likely a result of the perceived growing AI skills gap. The mobile operator's AI Skills for America initiative combines Verizon's existing $20 million Reskilling and Career Transition Fund for departing employees with $50 million in new funding. The programme will provide participants with free access to training. The operator claimed premium AI training can cost more than $700 per year. Verizon CEO Dan Schulman said the US economy would be stronger if workers received the support needed to adapt as AI changes workplaces. He called on companies and the public sector to invest in workers as urgently as they invest in technology. Free training, he argued, could help people remain employed or change careers, while giving small businesses room to grow. "When you empower people to embrace change rather than fear it, you create a ripple effect that builds healthier communities and a stronger and more resilient national economy", Schulman stated. To make AI training more accessible, Verizon is creating a free portal featuring content from IBM, Google, Microsoft, Anthropic, Coursera, and OpenAI. The programme also includes collaboration with mission-based organisations such as the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship and Goodwill Industries International. Verizon noted those organisations have strong community ties and can provide the coaching, guidance and local support needed to turn online learning into practical skills and greater confidence. The initiative will be offered nationwide, with additional support services available in selected regions. Verizon plans to work with community partners and participants to gather feedback and update the training as workforce needs change. Image Credit: Verizon

Verizon finally launches the Motorola Razr Fold, Razr+ 2026, and Razr 2026 with Swarovski crystals. Vlad 24 September 2026 Today, Verizon has announced the nationwide availability of three Motorola devices: the Razr Fold, Razr+ 2026, and Razr 2026 with Swarovski crystals. The Razr Fold is priced at $1,949.99, but you can have it for $25 per month with a four-year device payment plan, if you pick Verizon's Simplicity plan. The Razr+ 2026 is priced at $1,099.99, but you can have it for $15 per month for four years (a total of just $720). Verizon is also offering up to $1,100 off with an eligible trade-in - this is valid for new and existing customers on the myPlan, but keep in mind that the discount will be applied as bill credits over three years. If you buy or bring your own Motorola smartphone to Verizon, you can get the Moto Watch Ultra for free when adding a new connected watch line (but again, that works through bill credits over three years, the watch is priced at $349.99). Verizon is additionally selling the Moto Buds 2 Plus for $149, and it's giving you six months of Google AI Pro for free. This includes access to Gemini as well as 5TB of cloud storage on Google Drive. The Google AI Pro benefit is available to customers on eligible Simplicity, myPlan, FWA, and Fios plans. Verizon launches $70M free AI training programme for US workers

Verizon has launched a $70 million initiative to offer free AI training to US job seekers, small businesses, educators, and displaced workers. The program, Verizon AI Skills for America, combines a previously established $20 million fund with an additional $50 million commitment. The telecommunications company is creating an online portal featuring training materials from IBM, Google, Microsoft, Anthropic, Coursera, and OpenAI. Community nonprofits including Goodwill Industries International will provide hands-on coaching alongside the online coursework. CEO Dan Schulman said AI training typically costs over $700 per person annually when purchased independently. He urged other Fortune 100 companies to launch similar initiatives, suggesting collective contributions could create a multibillion-dollar fund. The programme launches nationwide, with enhanced support services in select regional markets. Workers can register at verizon.com/aiskillsforamerica.

NJ AI Hub, Verizon partner to grow AI skills and economic opportunity for workers and students.

NJ AI Hub, Verizon partner to grow AI skills and economic opportunity for workers and students. ROI-NJ Staff(West Windsor) September 23, 2026 The New Jersey AI Hub announced Sept. 23 a partnership with Verizon to expand access to practical, responsible AI skills and economic opportunity across New Jersey as part of Verizon AI Skills for America. This nationwide workforce initiative is designed to help workers outside of Verizon and local communities navigate and thrive in the evolving AI economy and is backed by a $70 million commitment from Verizon. The heart of Verizon AI Skills for America is an online training platform that aggregates AI training from established tech and education leaders. The platform guides learners from beginners to AI-fluent professionals, offering access to training resources at no cost. Through the partnership, the NJ AI Hub will work with Verizon to connect this national investment with New Jersey's broader efforts to prepare people and institutions for an economy increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence. In New Jersey, the partnership will place particular emphasis on people who may face greater barriers to accessing emerging technology and training opportunities, including workers navigating career transitions and those seeking to upskill or reskill in AI. The Hub's New Jersey activation was designed specifically around reaching workers and learners through institutions and systems they already use and trust. "New Jersey is not just home for Verizon - it is where we innovate and demonstrate what is possible when we put people at the center of our work," said Donna Epps, chief responsible business officer at Verizon. "Investing in our local communities means ensuring that technological progress serves as a true bridge to opportunity. Through our partnership with NJ AI Hub, we can connect directly with the workers and small businesses to turn AI skilling into real, lasting economic mobility." The partnership is focused on the economic transitions already being felt by workers and employers and reflects a premise of the NJ AI Hub's work: AI readiness is not simply about encouraging adoption. It is about helping people and institutions develop the capability to determine where AI is useful, how to use it responsibly, and how to adapt as the technology continues to evolve. "AI is advancing at an extraordinary pace, and access to the technology alone will not determine who benefits," said Liat Krawczyk, executive director of the New Jersey AI Hub. "People need the skills to use these tools effectively, the judgment to understand where they fall short, and opportunities to translate those capabilities into economic mobility. Verizon is making a significant national investment in AI skills, and our partnership is an opportunity to connect those resources with New Jersey workers and students." NJ AI Hub was founded through a public-private partnership among the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, Princeton University, Microsoft and CoreWeave. The Hub works across research, innovation and commercialization, education and workforce development, industry adoption, and responsible AI to help New Jersey translate technological change into broader economic and societal value. The Hub is connecting a high-quality national resource to the institutions people already rely on, learning what drives meaningful participation, and strengthening the local systems around workers and students. NJ AI Hub initiatives include AI Ready NJ, in which the NJ AI Hub and the New Jersey Council of County Colleges are strengthening AI readiness across all 18 community colleges. This readiness includes faculty development, institutional capacity and applied learning opportunities and the NJ AI Library Learning Network, a collaboration between the Hub, the New Jersey State Library and LibraryLinkNJ to extend practical AI learning into trusted community institutions.

Verizon to invest $70 million in AI training effort.

Verizon to invest $70 million in AI training effort. Published on 09/23/2026 at 08:02 am EDT - Modified on 09/23/2026 at 10:26 am EDT WASHINGTON, Sept 23 (Reuters) - Verizon said on Wednesday it would invest $70 million in a nationwide effort to provide AI training to job seekers, small businesses and educators, as the US economy adapts to rapid technological change. The US telecom company is partnering with non-profit programs such as Goodwill Industries and aims to provide AI training to hundreds of thousands of people using training resources from companies including IBM, Google, Anthropic, Microsoft and OpenAI. "AI will change the face of the workforce," Verizon CEO Dan Schulman said in an interview. "We can't do it alone, by the way, but maybe we can inspire and be a bit of a role model." Schulman wants other large companies to join the effort and help fund programs that equip workers with skills for specific AI-related jobs. "It's in the self-interest of all business leaders to step up," Schulman said. "If every Fortune 100 (company) put $50 million or $70 million into this, we have a multibillion-dollar fund." Verizon last year committed $20 million to help departing employees gain AI skills after announcing plans to cut 13,000 jobs. The new initiative adds a further $50 million. "We are very focused on relevant skills for relevant jobs in a transitioning economy," said Goodwill Industries CEO Steven Preston in an interview. "The requirement for AI in job descriptions by employers has just gone up exponentially. So they're looking for people who can apply AI in specific skills." The Verizon platform will offer free training tailored to specific occupations. Many workers view AI training as a "black hole", Preston said, because they are unsure where to begin. Goodwill began providing digital skills training in 2017 as employers increasingly demanded technology skills across a wide range of jobs. "This is providing access to meaningful roles that many people wouldn't have been able to compete for before," Preston said. Verizon senior vice president Donna Epps said the company chose to partner with an organisation such as Goodwill because it already has a strong presence in local communities and can provide hands-on support. "It's a massive challenge to create a AI ready workforce in the U.S.," Epps said. (Reporting by David Shepardson. Editing by David Goodman and Mark Potter) By David Shepardson (C) Reuters - 2026
