  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate policies, engage stakeholders, and build relationships across departments and with campus partners.
  • Strong analytical skills for assessing service quality, interpreting data, making informed decisions to improve processes, and resolving escalated issues effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver public services, adapt to change, and innovate in response to evolving user needs and organizational priorities.
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 40 pounds, push loaded carts, and work around moldy and dusty collections using appropriate personal protective equipment.
Responsibilities
  • Lead, motivate, coach, and develop staff to deliver exceptional service.
  • Set performance expectations, provide ongoing feedback, and foster professional growth through performance management and development opportunities.
  • Support staff well-being and model outstanding communication.
  • Ensure a seamless, high-quality user experience across in-person and virtual services, multiple access points, and collection maintenance.
  • Assess and enhance service quality by suggesting data-driven improvements, refining workflows, and adopting innovative technologies.
  • Ensure consistent service delivery, policy interpretation, and procedural application while resolving or escalating customer service issues.
  • Collaborate with campus partners, vendors, and professional organizations to advance library services.
  • Contribute to the excellence of collections and research support.
  • Participate in committees, projects, and professional activities.
  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of support staff.
  • Assess and resolve or escalate problems arising within the unit.
  • Assist in developing policies and procedures for the unit.
  • Assist in long-range planning for work unit needs.
  • Participate in unit budget planning.
  • Evaluate work requests to determine whether they are appropriate for the unit or another area.
  • Ensure that workflow is organized and staffed for quality and efficient completion.
  • Communicate deadlines and special circumstances to staff.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies for the unit.
  • Complete evaluations of direct-report employees.
  • Interact with university personnel to define work assignments and requirements, communicate work progress, and plan and coordinate projects.
  • Interact with external sources to coordinate project work, stay informed about new products and technologies, and arrange for subcontractors.
  • Supervise exempt and non-exempt employees.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in academic libraries, cultural heritage institutions, or higher education settings.
  • Expertise in access services functions such as circulation, resource sharing, and interlibrary loan.
  • Strong leadership expertise within unionized environments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
