Requirements
  • An associate degree is required.
  • A minimum of six months of experience in social services is required.
  • The position requires handling modestly unpleasant situations, including offensive language from callers.
Responsibilities
  • Receive and triage calls sent to the Behavioral Health Hub from MetroSafe call takers.
  • Provide crisis and suicide intervention by telephone, identify appropriate organizations and service providers using the provided database, connect callers with mobile crisis response when appropriate, and monitor callers' situations through case follow-up.
  • Document and maintain accurate, thorough records of all telephone interventions conducted during the work shift.
  • Assess situations, engage callers, develop rapport, and de-escalate.
  • De-escalate people in crisis and determine how to help them in the immediate situation.
  • Develop crisis plans using individuals' strengths and available community resources to resolve immediate crises.
  • Facilitate follow-up interventions with individuals.
  • Determine the appropriate level of care during crises and arrange referrals.
  • Work collaboratively with law enforcement, families, county departments, schools, acute care service providers, and other community resources to coordinate crisis resolution and referrals.
  • Communicate pertinent information promptly to people in crisis, MetroSafe call takers and dispatch, Louisville Metro Police Department, SCS, and other appropriate parties while preserving the dignity and privacy of people in crisis as much as possible.
  • Respond to emergency coverage needs and perform other assigned duties.
  • Facilitate openness and collaboration among team members to support accurate, quality crisis assistance and documentation.
  • Attend and participate in staff and team meetings.
  • Use a person-centered and trauma-informed approach in each interaction.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, Human Services, or a related field of study is preferred.
