Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university, including coursework in biological science, chemistry, and mathematics, plus successful completion of a National Accreditation Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences-accredited Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technologist program.
  • Alternatively, Medical Laboratory Technologist certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology and a bachelor's degree with two years of full-time laboratory experience in an accredited laboratory.
  • Two years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist is required.
  • Current Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist certification from a nationally recognized agency is required.
  • Certification must be current, and participation in a Credential Maintenance Program is required if applicable.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct a variety of tests on patient samples, including blood, body fluids, cells, and tissue, to detect the presence or absence of health conditions.
  • Use biomedical instrumentation, microscopes, and computers to study patient samples.
  • Provide data to physicians and healthcare providers for use in diagnosing and treating disease.
Desired Qualifications
  • Five years of total Medical Laboratory Scientist experience is preferred.
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology certification, or acceptable individual certification in the assigned section from a nationally recognized agency, is preferred.
