Requirements
  • Proficiency in various welding practices.
  • Proficiency in MIG, TIG, stick, and oxyacetylene torch use.
  • Ability to read blueprints and fit up and weld projects with little to no supervision.
  • Ability to keep the shop welding area clean and properly stocked with consumables.
  • Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions.
  • Physical fitness sufficient to board barges and tugs at sea and in port.
  • Ability to read, speak, write, type, and understand English in person and over the telephone.
  • Ability to work courteously and effectively with office staff and vessel crewmembers.
  • A valid Washington State driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential card within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to work aboard boats and barges using pike poles, heavy lines, winches, and mechanical tools for repairs.
  • Ability to make decisions and give directions to facilitate prompt service delivery.
  • Ability to work at docks, anchorages, and remote locations in all weather conditions and at all hours.
Responsibilities
  • Perform welding for general maintenance.
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs on boats and barges at the shop facility as required.
  • Assist with yard facility maintenance.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive communications.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Participate in the company's Spill Management team as assigned.
  • Take communications 24 hours a day, including weekends, concerning vessel maintenance, repair, and operations.
Desired Qualifications
  • WABO or American Bureau of Shipping certification.
