About the company

Caribou Financial helps people refinance auto loans using an online marketplace. Through its platform, customers can see potential interest rates, compare offers from a network of banks, credit unions, and other lenders, and apply to refinance an existing vehicle loan. The process aims to lower monthly payments, reduce total interest, or adjust loan terms, and may include optional vehicle protection products and co-borrower support. How it works is simple: users check rate quotes on Caribou’s site, review offers from partner lenders, and submit an application to obtain a new loan with preferred terms. What sets Caribou apart is its networked lending marketplace that sources offers from multiple partners, enabling transparent rate comparison and easier refinancing in one place, without committing to a single lender. Its goal is to help eligible borrowers save money on auto financing by streamlining the refinancing process and offering flexibility in loan terms and protections.

What believers are saying

  • NerdWallet’s August 2026 review cites about 40 lenders, mostly community banks and credit unions.
  • Caribou’s April 2026 lender page touts custom integrations and omnichannel marketing.
  • Revelio Labs reported 26 active 2026 job postings and 317 employees by March 2026.

What critics are saying

  • Coverager reported August and October 2025 layoffs; headcount fell from 407 to 361.
  • Caribou removed insurance by September 2023, killing a failed adjacent revenue stream.
  • A tighter lender panel or funding pause crushes Caribou’s refinance volume and unit economics.

What makes Caribou Financial unique

  • Caribou’s refinance marketplace compares offers across 40+ lenders and handles paperwork.
  • Partners only pay when loans fund, aligning Caribou with lender economics.
  • Denver-based Caribou keeps a narrow auto-refi focus, not a broad consumer bank.
