Requirements
  • American Society of Clinical Pathology certification or registry eligibility is required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with laboratory staff.
  • Ability to demonstrate fine motor skills for precise handling of tissue samples and laboratory equipment.
  • Knowledge of Biology, Chemistry, and Anatomy.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and other computer programs and applications.
  • Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.
  • Must comply with health and safety policies and patient-confidentiality requirements under HIPAA.
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment and control and adjust laboratory instruments.
  • Knowledge of histology equipment and ability to meet its maintenance requirements.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and to communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic and compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of histology terminology.
  • Associate degree in Biology or Chemistry from a two-year college.
  • Histotechnician experience is preferred; candidates meeting the education requirements can receive on-the-job training.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination, including embedding, sectioning, and staining.
  • Process and maintain tissue samples according to established protocols to ensure accurate and reliable results.
  • Calibrate and maintain histology equipment and instruments, ensuring proper functioning and cleanliness.
  • Maintain accurate records of tissue samples and processing procedures for traceability, compliance, and auditing.
  • Work with fellow employees to support efficient workflow, tissue processing, and accurate results.
  • Perform other position-related duties as assigned.
  • Follow applicable laws, regulations, organizational policies, and the Solaris Health Code of Conduct; protect patient health information, report suspected concerns or violations, and complete annual compliance training.
  • Participate in educational activities.
