About the company

TAP Engineering designs and builds custom electronics hardware for U.S. defense and intelligence agencies, along with the firmware and software that run it. Its engineers handle circuit board, radio frequency and mechanical packaging design, then prototype and test compact electronic systems for platforms ranging from aircraft to computer networks. A separate practice assesses microelectronics supply chains so customers can guard against counterfeit or tampered chips made in overseas factories. The company earns revenue through government research and engineering contracts, and its early work covered hardware trust, 3D printing and quantum computing. TAP Engineering was founded in 2020 and is based in Maryland.

What believers are saying

  • Retirement savings get help: TAP lists up to 15% employer 401(k) contributions through match and profit sharing.
  • Further study is funded: TAP's Columbia mechanical engineer posting lists tuition reimbursement up to $36,000 a year for approved coursework.
  • New work arrived: TAP announced a contract award supporting advanced microelectronics development in October 2026.

What critics are saying

  • Deadlines get extreme: TAP's quick reaction projects run on hours-to-weeks schedules and often need around-the-clock support.
  • Clearance gates an entry role: TAP's Hanover entry-level cyber operations developer posting requires active top secret (TS/SCI) clearance with polygraph.
  • The customer approves hires: TAP's Fort Meade electrical engineer offer depends on favorable acceptance onto the customer's program.

What makes TAP Engineering unique

  • Manufacturing is split: TAP uses domestic partners for volume builds and handles trusted assembly, programming and testing in-house.
  • Legacy hardware gets rebuilt: TAP reverse engineers obsolete electronics when the original design documentation is unavailable.
  • Contract scientists serve a government lab: TAP's College Park program supports research in photonics, advanced materials and microelectronics.
