Requirements

Expert-level experience with Red Hat OpenShift 4.x and Kubernetes, including multi-cluster environments, ACM, OVN-Kubernetes networking, ODF storage, platform upgrades, and lifecycle management.
Strong platform architecture experience, including designing highly available, resilient, scalable, and secure enterprise container platforms across complex environments.
Experience with GitOps and platform automation, including Argo CD, policy as code, CI/CD quality controls, and reusable engineering patterns.
Understanding of platform security, including RBAC, SCC, network segmentation, RHACS, HashiCorp Vault, vulnerability management, and compliance controls.
Experience applying SRE practices, including observability, SLOs, capacity planning, resilience, disaster recovery, and FinOps principles.
Technical leadership experience with design decisions, major incident resolution, root-cause analysis, and technical vendor engagement.
Stakeholder management skills to influence engineering, architecture, security, and senior stakeholders.
Experience mentoring senior engineers and uplifting engineering capability across teams.

Responsibilities

Act as the highest-level technical adviser within the OBCS team and support the development of L3 engineers.
Partner with the SOM to define platform architecture, technical direction, and roadmap; the SOM retains overall accountability for architecture and service outcomes.
Lead design reviews and establish engineering standards and guardrails.
Drive automation and GitOps practices.
Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security, regulatory, and reliability requirements.
Drive platform consistency, resilience, capacity, cost efficiency, and technical risk remediation.
Represent OBCS across key technical forums.
Manage technical engagement with vendors.
Provide leadership during major incidents and recurring platform issues.

Desired Qualifications

RHCA, Red Hat Certified OpenShift Administrator (EX280), CKA, or CKS certification; practical experience is valued over certification.

What’s the role?

The Principal Platform Engineer is expected to hold the highest level of technical expertise within the OBCS team, acting as the lead technical adviser and supporting the development of L3 engineers. The role will work in partnership with the SOM to define the platform architecture, technical direction and roadmap, while the SOM retains overall accountability for the architecture and service outcomes.

This role will be responsible for leading design reviews, establishing engineering standards and guardrails, driving automation and GitOps practices, and ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, security, regulatory and reliability requirements. It will also drive platform consistency, resilience, capacity, cost efficiency and technical risk remediation, represent OBCS across key technical forums, manage technical engagement with vendors, and provide leadership during major incidents and recurring platform issues.

What do I need?
