Requirements
  • A Master’s degree in medical physics, physics, or a related field is required.
  • Board certification or board eligibility by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Medical Physics is required.
  • At least two years of clinical experience is typically required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with radiation therapy equipment and software is required.
  • The ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally and to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced clinical environment is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform calibration, quality assurance, and routine testing of radiation therapy equipment, including linear accelerators, CT simulators, and brachytherapy systems.
  • Review and approve complex radiation treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and dosimetrists, ensuring dose accuracy and patient safety.
  • Conduct patient-specific quality assurance checks for intensity-modulated radiation therapy, volumetric modulated arc therapy, stereotactic body radiation therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, and brachytherapy cases.
  • Complete initial, weekly, and final chart reviews to ensure treatment plan accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with commissioning, acceptance testing, and implementation of new equipment, software, and treatment techniques.
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with federal, state, and institutional radiation safety regulations, including documentation and audits.
  • Serve as a technical resource for radiation safety, shielding evaluations, and exposure monitoring.
  • Communicate with clinical staff and participate in case reviews, multidisciplinary meetings, and department initiatives.
  • Train and support residents, students, and clinical staff on physics principles, equipment use, and treatment protocols.
  • Stay current with advances in medical physics and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.
