Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of vocational nursing is required.
  • Must be a current Licensed Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas and in good standing.
  • Completion of the Residential Staff Certification Course with one year of assignment to residential facilities, if applicable.
  • Must possess a valid Texas driver's license.
  • Must pass and maintain a favorable criminal background check.
  • Must clear a pre-employment physical and urinalysis test.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 10 to 30 pounds frequently and perform the required walking, standing, reaching, twisting, and handling.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, protected health information, and PSI requirements.
  • May be required to be on-call 24 hours and work a flexible schedule exceeding 40 hours per week.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in evaluating and caring for probationers and residents at residential facilities.
  • Provide physical care and carry out therapeutic and medical regimens.
  • Assess, report, and record vital signs and measurements.
  • Observe, report, and record patients' physical and emotional changes.
  • Respond to medical emergencies.
  • Document patient information.
  • Administer medications under the direction and authority of the Medical Director, when authorized.
  • Collect DNA and urinalysis samples for Department databases, as required.
  • Maintain a comfortable, orderly, safe, and clean environment for patients.
  • Perform additional functions incidental to nursing activities.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate degree or higher in a medical field is desirable.
  • Two years of documented clinical experience is preferred.
