Requirements
  • Background knowledge of sample preparation methods, including cutting, lapping, and polishing.
  • Background knowledge of materials characterization methods, including microscopy, spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction.
  • Understanding of laboratory safety practices, including personal protective equipment, chemical handling, and waste disposal.
  • Ability to maintain organized and detailed notes.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • An Associate Degree and 2 or more years of relevant experience are required for the intermediate professional level, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • An Associate Degree and 4 or more years of relevant experience are required for the advanced professional level, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to obtain a government security clearance.
  • Eligibility for employment requires U.S. citizenship.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare samples, including cutting, lapping, and polishing.
  • Characterize materials and devices using microscopy, spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and electrical testing.
  • Perform device processing steps, including lithography, etching, and deposition.
  • Configure furnaces, reactors, and vacuum-system hardware.
  • Run furnaces and reactors and monitor materials growth and synthesis processes.
  • Perform equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Analyze data and communicate results.
  • Perform assembly operations and fabricate facility and test equipment.
  • Provide input to and perform design and layout of standard facility and test equipment as directed.
  • Inspect, test, and calibrate parts and equipment as directed.
  • Evaluate materials and component selection based on operational and performance specifications.
  • Assess and identify system faults and adjust and repair equipment as directed.
  • Assist senior technical and engineering staff in gathering, compiling, and archiving laboratory or field test data.
  • Work as part of a laboratory or field test project support team, including selected task leadership roles.
  • Develop and provide documentation for task procedures and process evaluation.

  • Basic knowledge of vacuum systems and hardware.
  • Basic knowledge of semiconductor materials and devices.
  • Experience using computer-aided design software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
