"This is a major milestone in our multi-year transformation journey to help us fully achieve our potential," said Creedon at the time. "We will continue to grow and optimize our Dollar Tree business to maximize value for Dollar Tree associates, customers and shareholders with an enhanced focus on compelling initiatives, including our expanded assortment, significant planned new store openings across the United States, and transactions that advance our growth strategy." Creedon continued, "Under the experienced, dynamic leadership of Family Dollar President Jason Nordin, and with the financial support of Brigade and Macellum, Family Dollar will be well-positioned for growth as a private company. With the support of a dedicated team, Family Dollar will be able to strengthen its commitment to providing affordable and essential goods to customers so they can do more with less." Dollar Tree taking over empty Walgreens building.

Dollar Tree taking over empty Walgreens building. The discount chain is remodeling the vacant building on the North Side, with work set to begin in January. Published Date: October 22, 2026, 10:36 PM EDT Dollar Tree is planning to open a new store in a former Walgreens on San Antonio's North Side, with renovation work scheduled to start in mid-January and finish in mid-March 2027. State filings put the cost of the project at about $225,000. The building is at 10411 West Ave., and the filing covers 13,876 square feet. The work will be privately funded and includes an interior remodel with new finishes and fixtures, plus new rooftop heating and cooling units and a new TPO roof. The filing doesn't give an opening date. The building, which dates to 1997, sits on about 1.6 acres and has a drive-thru and roughly 68 parking spaces. A commercial listing, updated this month, offers the space as a sublease. Dollar Tree is in expansion mode. The company plans to open about 400 stores and close about 75 this fiscal year, according to Quartz. It had 9,382 stores across the U.S. and Canada at the end of its first quarter, after adding 113 locations in those three months. Roughly 5,900 of its stores now use the multi-price format, which lets the chain sell items above its original single price point. The San Antonio market is part of that push. MySA has reported Dollar Tree moving into shuttered CVS stores across the city, and What Now San Antonio reported in July that the company plans a ground-up store of about 12,000 square feet on the Far West Side at W. Loop 1604 S., with construction slated for this fall. Love its content? Add WhatNow as a preferred source on Google to see more of its trusted coverage when you search. Be the first to know.
