  • Use sound judgment under pressure and communicate plainly and compassionately with students, families, and staff from all backgrounds.
  • Maintain strong boundaries, respect confidentiality, and keep organized, timely records.
  • Hold an MSW or DSW from a Council on Social Work Education-accredited program and a current, active LCSW license in good standing with the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council.

  • Hold a valid driver's license, have reliable transportation for regular travel between campuses, and manage a caseload across all three campuses.
Responsibilities
  • Provide solution-focused individual and small-group support for anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, family difficulties, and athlete-specific concerns such as injury, loss of playing time, performance pressure, burnout, disordered eating, and substance use.
  • Screen for mental health needs; refer students and families to outside therapists, psychiatrists, and programs; and maintain a current directory of vetted providers across all three areas.
  • Serve as the school's primary responder for suicidal thoughts, self-harm, or threats toward others; conduct risk assessments using tools such as the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale; develop safety plans with students and families; and coordinate emergency referrals, including the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, when a higher level of care is needed.
  • Participate in behavioral threat assessments with school leadership and, when appropriate, law enforcement.
  • Lead re-entry planning after hospitalization or crisis and provide postvention support after a loss in the school community.
  • Train faculty, Academic Guides, coaches, and staff to recognize and respond to warning signs.
  • Maintain suicide-prevention, crisis-response, and threat-assessment protocols across all three campuses, and lead student prevention efforts on stress, healthy relationships, and help-seeking.
  • Give parents clear, compassionate next steps during and after a crisis, connect them with outside resources, and provide family education on adolescent and athlete mental health.
  • Maintain confidential, timely records of assessments, safety plans, and referrals; fulfill mandated reporting duties under Texas Family Code §261.101; maintain Texas licensure; and report anonymized data on crisis responses, referrals, and trainings to school leadership.
  • Split time across the Carrollton, Frisco, and Parker campuses according to student need, remain reachable by phone during school hours, and occasionally attend evening family meetings or trainings.
  • Prioritize crisis response on any campus.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in a school, athletic, or youth sports setting.
  • Knowledge of athlete concerns such as injury, performance pressure, identity, and eating disorders.
  • Training or experience in cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy skills, or trauma-informed care.

About the company

Texas Sports Academy is a private school model designed for serious student-athletes in grades three through eleven. It combines accelerated, personalized academics in the morning with extended athletic coaching and practical life-skills development in the afternoon. Programs use mastery-based learning and sport-specific instruction to help students pursue academic progress without treating training as an after-school add-on. The academy operates multiple Texas locations and is part of the Alpha School education network, with coaches and guides supporting both learning and athletic development.
