Requirements
  • A community college diploma or degree in the health services or social services field, or equivalent experience in a community-based facility; experience in disabilities is preferred.
  • At least two years of experience in developmental services.
  • A valid Manitoba Class V driver's licence and access to a personal vehicle.
  • A criminal record check.
  • A Child Abuse Registry check.
  • An Adult Abuse Registry check.
  • Moderate keyboarding and manual record-keeping skills.
  • The ability to provide occasional to moderate physical care, including manual or assisted transfers.
  • The ability to lift and pack member belongings, program supplies, and residence supplies.
  • The ability to frequently stand, sit, walk, and reach.
  • The ability to perform light housekeeping and property maintenance.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the orientation and training of new staff.
  • Monitor program expenditures.
  • Record and report activities, behaviours, and incidents occurring during the shift.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of program vehicle usage and maintenance.
  • Ensure the facility complies with agency policies and procedures and Department of Families’ requirements.
  • Manage member funds and record purchases under the direction of the Director of Day Services.
  • Assist the Director of Day Services in developing an agenda.
  • Familiarize staff with agency policies and procedures and support, implement, and guide their application in daily tasks.
  • Suggest improvements to efficiency, working conditions, or procedures to the Director of Day Services when required.
  • Monitor health and safety processes and ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations, including emergency evacuation, vehicle usage, member transportation, working alone, food, medications, equipment, storage, and maintenance procedures.
  • Provide crisis intervention for members as required.
  • Conduct checks throughout shifts to ensure the safety of the facility and members.
  • Understand and promote members’ rights and responsibilities.
  • Transport members to and from various locations using safe driving and defensive driving practices and following traffic laws.
  • Promptly report personnel and member concerns to the Director of Day Services.
  • Promote proper lifting, twisting, and reaching techniques.
  • Use provided personal protective equipment when necessary.
  • Attend to individuals’ health and medical needs, including personal care where needed, and administer and record medication where applicable.
  • Recognize and report concerns of abuse or neglect.
  • Provide emotional support for members as required.
  • Implement and monitor individual person-centred plans.
  • Support individuals with pre-planning by gathering information about their goals and desired outcomes.
  • Communicate necessary information and maintain positive relationships with other agencies and programs.
  • Encourage and assist individuals to participate in daily activities, employment, and community activities, including work and community expectations, personal hygiene, meal preparation, grocery shopping, laundry, and care of the facility and grounds.
  • Maintain a supportive and nurturing program environment that encourages member involvement and decision-making.
  • Model appropriate behaviour and attitudes that support members’ growth and independence.
  • Contribute to the wise use of member and program resources.
  • Develop opportunities for family and community engagement and assist individuals in developing positive social interactions.
  • Maintain courteous and professional contact with others and treat members and staff with respect and dignity.
  • Complete annual program inventories where applicable.
  • Ensure records and documentation are completed and securely stored according to agency policies and procedures and Department of Families’ requirements.
  • Perform necessary housekeeping duties and report maintenance issues as they arise.
  • Assist the Director in creating, managing, and facilitating activities, special events, and spiritual care programs according to member interests, skills, and ability levels.
  • Complete all necessary components and required documentation for assigned activities.
  • Provide day-to-day direction and guidance to Day Service Facilitators, supervise workflow, and resolve conflicts and employee issues when necessary and assigned under the Director’s guidance.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training opportunities.
  • Monitor and report team expenditures and vehicle usage and maintenance.
  • Manage records and documentation materials.
  • Perform duties in the day program facility, during off-site meetings, and while accompanying members in the community.
  • Perform duties in environments that may involve verbal abuse, angry or abusive people, bodily fluids, waste, sharp objects, hot equipment, infectious diseases, and emergency situations.
