  • An undergraduate degree or post-secondary diploma in marketing, communications, business, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, audience engagement, campaign delivery, communications, or a related field.
  • Experience developing and executing marketing initiatives across multiple channels and platforms.
  • Experience coordinating projects and stakeholders in a complex, multi-functional environment.
  • Experience working within established brand standards, marketing frameworks, or governance models.
  • Strong knowledge of marketing principles, campaign planning, audience engagement, and channel integration.
  • Ability to independently manage assigned marketing activities and apply professional judgment within defined scope.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret performance information and identify opportunities for improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver marketing initiatives supporting Co-operative and Experiential Education priorities for prospective and current students, employers, partners, and experiential learning audiences.
  • Apply specialized knowledge of the co-operative education, work-integrated learning, and experiential education environment to inform marketing approaches and audience engagement strategies.
  • Develop audience-focused content, messaging, and marketing materials promoting programs, services, opportunities, and outcomes related to Co-operative and Experiential Education.
  • Translate complex academic, employer, and experiential learning information into clear, relevant marketing content for diverse audiences.
  • Adapt marketing approaches, messaging, and content to the needs, interests, and motivations of prospective students, current students, employers, and external partners.
  • Support promotion of the University's co-operative education and experiential learning value proposition through integrated marketing activities and audience engagement initiatives.
  • Identify emerging audience needs, market considerations, and engagement opportunities to support marketing effectiveness.
  • Develop marketing plans for assigned initiatives, campaigns, and audience engagement activities aligned with institutional objectives.
  • Translate project requirements, audience needs, and marketing priorities into coordinated activities and deliverables.
  • Lead delivery of assigned marketing work in alignment with scope, timelines, and intended outcomes.
  • Apply marketing knowledge and professional judgment to adapt approaches based on audience, channel, and project requirements.
  • Support marketing objectives through planning, coordination, and execution.
  • Identify implementation challenges and recommend practical solutions to support delivery objectives.
  • Apply and reinforce institutional brand standards, messaging frameworks, accessibility requirements, and marketing guidelines.
  • Identify and address issues related to brand application, messaging, accessibility, quality, or audience experience.
  • Support consistent application of governance practices, templates, and marketing frameworks.
  • Escalate matters requiring broader review, approval, or alignment.
  • Consult with stakeholders, campus partners, and University Relations colleagues to understand objectives, audience needs, priorities, and project requirements and align them with integrated marketing initiatives.
  • Act as a primary marketing advisor for assigned projects, aligning inputs, expectations, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Provide advice and recommendations to stakeholders regarding marketing strategies, audience considerations, channel selection, and implementation requirements.
  • Build productive working relationships to support alignment, collaboration, and successful delivery of assigned marketing initiatives.
  • Resolve marketing-related issues and stakeholder concerns within established frameworks and delegated authority, escalating as appropriate.
  • Balance competing stakeholder priorities, project requirements, and timelines to support effective decision-making and delivery.
  • Lead day-to-day delivery of assigned marketing initiatives, ensuring activities, deliverables, and stakeholder inputs are aligned to achieve objectives.
  • Collaborate with Creative Studio, Digital Experience, Communications, Market Research, and other service-line teams to support integrated marketing outcomes.
  • Exercise professional judgment to manage competing priorities, resolve implementation challenges, and adapt approaches to changing requirements.
  • Evaluate campaign performance, audience engagement, and marketing results to identify trends, inform recommendations, and improve marketing effectiveness.
  • Apply audience insight, performance information, and stakeholder feedback to optimize marketing activities within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Develop new tools, templates, and processes adopted by the team.
  • Recommend improvements to marketing processes, tools, templates, and delivery approaches based on performance information, stakeholder feedback, and emerging practices.
  • Contribute to the development and adoption of consistent marketing practices across the team.
  • Support implementation of marketing standards, planning tools, and governance practices.
  • Maintain awareness of marketing trends, technologies, and emerging best practices.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of marketing services and outcomes.

The Student Venture Fund (SVF) at the University of Waterloo provides students with hands-on venture capital training by evaluating startups, conducting market research, valuing companies, performing due diligence, and making investment recommendations under supervision from finance professors and industry mentors. Students work through the full investment process, presenting ideas and executing approved investments as part of a live early-stage portfolio. The program differs from typical courses by offering an end-to-end, real-money learning experience with ongoing mentorship and industry interaction. Its goal is to develop practical VC skills in students while building real-world investment experience and expanding connections with the startup and investment community.
