About the job
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Two years of experience in network operations, deployment, field engineering, or technical support in a network operations center or security operations center.
- Experience executing scheduled network maintenance windows and following strict change management procedures.
- Experience with IPv4/IPv6 addressing, VLANs, LACP, static routing, and OSPF.
- Practical experience staging and configuring enterprise or service-provider network gear, such as NX-OS, Juniper Junos, Nokia SR-OS/OLT, or Arista EOS.
- Experience with network utilities including Ping, Traceroute, and MTR, along with basic Ethernet and optical test sets.
- Experience running pre-built Ansible playbooks or Jinja2 templates for bulk provisioning and automated health checks.
- Apply baseline configurations, update firmware, and initialize new network elements, including routers, switches, firewalls, and optical equipment, across data centers, regional points of presence, and subscriber access sites.
- Perform link integrity checks, fiber light-level checks using optical power meters and optical time-domain reflectometer review, and RFC 2544/EtherSAM (Y.1564) throughput testing for newly turned-up circuits.
- Complete detailed site acceptance forms, update asset management tools such as NetBox and IP address management systems, and document final physical and logical topologies.
- Resolve immediate Level 2 commissioning failures, including misconfigured optics, duplex or speed mismatches, incorrect VLAN assignments, and broken routing adjacencies.
- Direct on-site field technicians through physical cabling checks, serial console connections, transceiver replacements, and patch panel mapping.
- Document and escalate complex architectural, multi-vendor software, or upstream carrier issues to Level 3 engineers or vendor technical assistance center teams.
- Follow step-by-step method-of-procedure documents and change-control windows without taking unapproved shortcuts.
- Communicate verbally and in writing when coordinating with field technicians, project managers, and operational teams.
- Work scheduled off-peak maintenance windows, typically midnight to 6:00 AM, and travel occasionally to regional site locations.

The deployment represents the first multifamily implementation of 3 gigabit symmetrical speeds with Wi-Fi 7 technology. The system provides residents with instant connectivity upon move-in through Quext's app, eliminating installation delays. Residents receive a private network that extends throughout their units and common areas, enabling control of smart home devices anywhere on the property. The solution integrates with Irvine Company's Tour Guide app, allowing prospective residents secure property access during self-guided tours. According to the National Multifamily Housing Council, nearly 75% of apartment tenants consider pre-installed Wi-Fi an important amenity. GFiber currently operates in 19 states across America.
Astound has appointed Ettienne Brandt as chief executive officer, effective immediately. Brandt will lead the company as it prepares for a planned combination with GFiber (formerly Google Fiber), announced on 11 March, which would create the largest independent fibre-based broadband provider in the United States. Brandt brings over 25 years of telecommunications experience. He most recently served as executive vice president, commercial at Frontier Communications, playing a key role in the company's transformation that led to its $20 billion sale to Verizon. He has previously worked for British Telecom, EE, Orange and Virgin Media. Astound provides internet, Wi-Fi, mobile, TV and fibre-optic solutions across multiple US states, including Texas, California and New York.
For the Pacific Northwest tech corridor, the deal is the latest chapter for a business born in Kirkland, Wash., as Wave Broadband. Founded by Steve Weed, Wave grew into a dominant regional challenger to traditional cable giants.
