Requirements
  • Graduate from a Medical Imaging Program.
  • Possess a current radiography license as required by the state board where services will be provided: Maryland requires a radiographer license through the Maryland Board of Physicians; Ohio requires a radiographer license through the Ohio Board of Radiology; Pennsylvania requires no state license; West Virginia requires a radiography license through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board.
  • Hold national certification as defined by the service location: Maryland, Ohio, and West Virginia require Registered Radiography Technologist certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists upon hire; Pennsylvania requires it within six months of graduation from the Medical Imaging Program.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Complete state and, if applicable, federal criminal background checks required for regulated areas.
  • Possess the interpersonal skills to communicate, negotiate, and resolve conflict effectively.
  • Demonstrate motivation and drive for continuous self-development.
  • Interact cooperatively with the health care team to support shared group goals.
  • Be able to sit for extended periods.
  • Be able to lift, push, or pull at least 40 pounds.
  • Be available for required call coverage.
Responsibilities
  • Perform technologist duties and assist physicians with diagnostic heart catheterization, interventional cardiac procedures, electrophysiological procedures, device implantations, and peripheral vascular procedures.
  • Obtain and prepare medications under direct physician order for procedures.
  • Maintain sterile technique while assembling supplies for physicians and laboratory personnel.
  • Continuously monitor patients' electrocardiograms and blood pressure, document activity accurately and promptly, and advise the physician.
  • Answer the cardiac catheterization or vascular laboratory telephone courteously and promptly while identifying the unit and oneself.
  • Coordinate the laboratory procedural schedule and workload with patient demand and physician schedules.
  • Act as the laboratory code team by initiating resuscitative measures and cardiac defibrillators under the direct supervision of the physician in charge.
  • Document all procedures, use the established inventory control system, bill for procedures through the electronic medical record, and assist with inventory counts.
  • Safely escort patients to the appropriate departments.
  • Apply electrocautery and ablation pads under physician supervision.
  • Instruct radiography students in the clinical setting on patient positioning, technique selection, equipment manipulation, and use of accessory devices to obtain radiographic images.
  • Monitor and interpret hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Prepare the procedure entry site using sterile technique.
  • Participate in department inventory management.
  • Check and prepare patients before procedures.
  • Work in an environment involving occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, body fluids, toxic or caustic chemicals, and electrical shock hazards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Obtain Dysthymia course certification through WVU Medicine within one year of hire.
  • Hold Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
  • Have one year of experience as a cardiovascular interventional radiologic technologist.
