Requirements
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and positively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions with attention to detail.
  • Ability to problem-solve, monitor and track data, identify trends, and create solutions.
  • Understanding of insurance payors, prior authorizations, and eligibility requirements.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and applications, including Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word.
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • At least 3 years of experience in medical billing.
  • Experience in health care customer service.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the full scope of billing for each assigned specialty in conjunction with Practice Leaders.
  • Ensure accurate charge capture and manage the reconciliation process.
  • Review and work revenue cycle work queues daily.
  • Communicate with the coding vendor regarding surgical procedures.
  • Train support staff on appropriate billing procedures.
  • Work with Revenue Cycle and Operations Directors on the overall status of outstanding billing for assigned specialties.
  • Apply and accurately interpret the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding system.
  • Ensure clinical staff and providers submit proper and accurate documentation for services provided.
  • Serve as a liaison and resource for clinical and non-clinical staff regarding revenue cycle processes.
  • Complete all claims and itemized bills daily with complete accuracy.
  • Review appropriate Apex reports daily and report discrepancies to the Practice Leader.
  • Perform quality control on claims and itemized bills to ensure accuracy and prompt, correct payments.
  • Foster effective working relationships with external organizations and agencies as required.
  • Exercise initiative, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Manage multiple tasks in a busy clinical environment.
  • Prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently.
Desired Qualifications
  • Coding specialist certification.
  • Experience with Apex/Epic.
  • Experience and current knowledge of ICD-10-CM, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) coding methods.
