About the job

Requirements
  • Be a current Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD student in Robotics, Computer Science, AI, or a related field.
  • Have hands-on experience with robotic systems such as Franka, UR, or Kinova, or with simulators such as PyBullet or Mujoco.
  • Be familiar with modern policy learning techniques such as imitation learning, reinforcement learning, or diffusion policies.
  • Be proficient in Python.
  • Have experience with PyTorch.
  • Be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
  • Design and implement manipulation algorithms on real and simulated robot platforms.
  • Run experiments on physical robot arms and help improve teleoperation and control systems.
  • Work with the founding team on projects spanning perception, control, and systems integration.
  • Contribute to infrastructure for testing, visualization, and experiment reproducibility.
  • As needed, assemble robots, swap sensors, and help maintain the robot fleet.

About the company

Verne Robotics provides AI-powered software for bimanual robot arms to learn and perform new tasks within hours, not weeks. Its Nemo3 system—a dual-arm robot with a 2.5-foot reach and 4-pound payload—uses AI and diffusion models to analyze about 30 minutes of tele-operated data and break tasks into learnable skills that the robot can execute. The company offers a pay-by-the-hour model, avoiding large upfront costs and making automation accessible to industries that require dexterous manipulation, such as meal-kit assembly, packaging, logistics, and biotech lab work. Verne Robotics differentiates itself through fast, data-driven task learning, flexible installation, and a service-based pricing approach rather than traditional, expensive robotic deployments. Its goal is to accelerate and democratize robotic automation by enabling rapid, flexible, and affordable robotic solutions that can be deployed in a variety of settings.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Verne's June 2026 website adds two arm lengths and business savings messaging.
  • Y Combinator listed two open roles in August 2026, signaling active hiring.
  • Fondo's September 2026 coverage says a biotech unicorn already uses Verne production robots.

What critics are saying

  • ABClonal remains the only public customer proof; one failure before 2027 crushes credibility.
  • Small June 2026 team and two-job hiring limit deployment, support, and sales capacity.
  • Pay-by-the-hour robotics leaves Verne exposed if utilization drops below hardware amortization.

What makes Verne Robotics unique

  • Nemo3 trains on 30 minutes of tele-operation data, compressing deployment to four days.
  • ABClonal's 2026 case study shows 5-10 weekly hours saved in cold-chain packaging.
  • YC S25 and on-site reconfiguration position Verne as robotics-as-a-service, not capex hardware.
