CHAOS Industries launches VESPID low-cost interceptors, targeting 12,000 units a year

CHAOS Industries, a US defence-tech company, has launched VESPID, a family of very low-cost interceptors that counter Group 1–3 unmanned aerial vehicles and one-way attack threats. The company announced the product in Washington on October 12, 2026. The Mk 0 is man-portable and built for austere environments. The Mk 1 is faster and more manoeuvrable, designed for high-density installations with a multitube launcher. CHAOS expects initial production capacity of 12,000 interceptors per year, with room to expand to 50,000 as demand grows. VESPID works with the company's multistatic radar systems, which cue the interceptors. "Affordability and the ability to rapidly replace capability are not secondary considerations. They are operational advantages," said co-founder and chief technology officer Bo Marr. CHAOS, founded in 2022, has raised a total of $1 billion from investors including 8VC, Accel, and Valor Equity Partners.

CHAOS Industries acquires Atropos to expand counter-drone capabilities.

CHAOS Industries acquires Atropos to expand counter-drone capabilities. CHAOS Industries has acquired Atropos Group to combine airborne platforms with its radar, sensor, and counter-drone technologies. The acquisition brings Atropos's autonomous air vehicle designs and flight software into CHAOS Industries' portfolio, allowing the company to develop integrated systems capable of detecting, tracking, and engaging aerial threats from mobile airborne platforms. "This acquisition brings together two companies with a shared belief that the drone threat demands a fundamentally different answer," CHAOS CEO John Tenet said. This deal also expands the company's domestic manufacturing footprint by adding airframe production to its existing US facilities, where its radar and sensing systems are already being produced for critical infrastructure protection in the US and the Middle East. As part of the transaction, the entire Atropos team will join CHAOS Industries. Co-founder Vince Dutcavich will lead the newly established Aerospace Division, while co-founder Colin Carroll will become chief growth officer overseeing business development and customer engagement. Defense companies expand autonomous capabilities. CHAOS Industries joins a growing list of defense companies using acquisitions to strengthen autonomous technologies and unmanned capabilities. In July, Ondas acquired DZYNE Technologies in an $875.8-million deal, adding long-endurance drones, counter-uncrewed aerial systems, and autonomous strike capabilities to its portfolio. In May, Elbit Systems subsidiary FUSE acquired Bluewhite, expanding its autonomy portfolio with AI-enabled ground robotic systems for off-road and defense applications. Earlier, in April, Red Cat Holdings acquired Apium Swarm Robotics to strengthen its autonomous drone portfolio with swarming technology.

Insta and CHAOS Industries partner to counter rising aerial threats in Europe.

Insta and CHAOS Industries partner to counter rising aerial threats in Europe. Partnership brings distributed sensing and effects to Finland and Northern Europe to address ongoing threats of unmanned aerial systems. Insta and U.S.-based defence technology company CHAOS Industries today announced a partnership enabling the integration of CHAOS's next-generation distributed sensing and effects capabilities into an intelligent data-centric command-and-control system developed by Insta. CHAOS's sensing solutions have logged 20,000+ hours of tracking operations globally, including in Europe and the Middle East for U.S. and allied and partner forces.Insta will integrate the company's VANQUISH PRIME radar and additional products under development with Insta's AirC2 to establish a common situational picture. Insta's AirC2 product family, for example, contains solutions for the integrated command of air defence in terms of both anti-aircraft and fighter defence. This partnership is the first agreement CHAOS Industries has signed with a European technology partner and enables joint design and development in areas including sensor integrations as well as advanced radar, detection, identification and data transmission solutions. "What we're seeing across Finland and Northern Europe is the operational reality − drone incursions are exposing gaps that no single nation can close alone. This partnership is about bringing a distributed sensor and shooter layer to places that need it the most, before those gaps become consequences," says John Tenet, co-founder and CEO of CHAOS Industries. "The agreement lays the foundation for a new kind of product development and integration of advanced solutions. This new era in defence technology requires performance, a fast product development cycle, cost-efficiency and agility in responding to market changes," says Petri Reiman, CEO at Insta Advance. "Drones are now part of everyday reality and the battlefield in Europe. Finland's air defence is commanded through our systems − integrating CHAOS's solutions into our own defence system could enable cost-effective and comprehensive drone detection and counter-drone capability in the future," Reiman states. The collaboration brings together the two companies' expertise in counter-unmanned aerial systems, supporting the development of proven, yet cost-effective solutions to address the European region's need for layered air defenses. The first joint solution by Insta and CHAOS Industries will be demonstrated in Finland in the coming months. Image: CHAOS Industries About CHAOS Industries CHAOS Industries is redefining modern defense with a multi-product portfolio that gives the ultimate advantage − domain dominance. Astrion names new CEO, taps leaders for space, growth roles. Astrion has appointed Tom Vice as executive chair and CEO, Eric Brown as president of space operations and allied missions and Conn Doherty as chief growth officer, all effective immediately. "Mission demands are increasing in speed, complexity, and consequence," Vice said. "Astrion's strength starts with its people - a talented team with deep mission understanding, strong customer relationships, and a proven record of execution. We are building on that foundation with focus, urgency, and resolve - strengthening what we do best today while expanding the operational capabilities, integrated solutions, and innovative technologies we bring to our customers. We intend to build on Astrion's strengths and deliver greater capability, broader innovation, and more decisive impact for the missions we serve." Vice succeeds Dave Zolet, who led Astrion since the company's 2023 launch and helped establish the company's strong operational base. "Building Astrion from three separate businesses into a $1B+ company is something I will always be proud of," Zolet said. "More than the numbers, I am proud of the team we built and the mission they show up for every day. Their talent, commitment, and mission focus is what makes Astrion truly stand apart in this industry." Vice served as CEO of Sierra Space, where he helped build the company into a $5.4 billion enterprise and led $1.7 billion in Series A and B capital raises. Before that, he was chairman, CEO and president of Aerion Corp. Earlier in his career, he held senior roles at Northrop Grumman, including president of its Aerospace Systems sector and president of its Technical Services sector. Brown most recently served as vice president of mission strategy and advanced capabilities at Lockheed Martin Space. He has also held roles at Booz Allen Hamilton, URS Corp./EG&G Technical Services and PwC. Doherty most recently served as chief growth officer of CHAOS Industries. Earlier, he spent nearly two decades at Raytheon, RTX and Collins Aerospace, including as vice president and general manager overseeing battle management, command and control, and autonomy platforms.
