Requirements
  • Minimum of two (2) years of EMS experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of EMS driving experience with a clean driving record.
  • Valid PHTLS (Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support) or BTLS (Basic Trauma Life Support) provider card preferred.
  • Previous experience with electronic medical records preferred.
  • Must pass a medical evaluation and respirator fit test.
  • Must be able to wear an N95 particulate filter respirator mask per PEOSHA standards.
  • Active, valid certification as a New Jersey Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic or New Jersey Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN).
  • MICN applicants must obtain certification before completing the probationary period in accordance with N.J.A.C. 8:41-9.9.
  • Paramedics seeking New Jersey reciprocity may receive conditional employment upon passing a background check and physical examination.
  • Paramedics seeking New Jersey reciprocity must obtain provisional EMT-Paramedic certification from the New Jersey Department of Health before starting work.
  • Paramedics seeking New Jersey reciprocity must obtain full New Jersey Paramedic certification per N.J.A.C. 8:41A-4.2 to remain employed.
  • Valid driver’s license with New Jersey driving privileges and compliance with DOT/MVC vehicle requirements.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider certification.
  • American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider or PEPP-A certification.
  • Incident Command System Level 100 or higher certification.
  • National Incident Management System Awareness certification, such as FEMA IS-700 or equivalent.
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness certification or higher.
  • CBRNE or WMD Awareness certification or higher.
Responsibilities
  • Provides and directs both Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support in the pre-hospital setting.
  • Works in coordination with EMS team members under the direction of a licensed Medical Control Physician and EMS Supervisor.
  • Responds to emergencies involving patients of all ages and backgrounds, in all weather and environmental conditions.
  • Uses appropriate equipment and techniques to assess, treat, lift, and safely transport patients.
  • Transports patients to appropriate medical facilities based on condition and care needs.
  • Accurately completes all required reports and documentation.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned to support efficient EMS operations.
  • Represents University Hospital and EMS with professionalism, integrity, and compassion.
Desired Qualifications
  • CEVO (Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator) training course.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills.
  • Previous experience with electronic medical records.
  • Valid PHTLS (Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support) or BTLS (Basic Trauma Life Support) provider card.
