Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in supply chain, commodity management, or strategic sourcing, with direct experience managing contract manufacturers.
  • A technical engineering background; mechanical engineering is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience setting up and managing contract manufacturers for electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience developing requests for information and requests for quotation in partnership with engineering teams, from prototype-level through production-intent sourcing.
  • Experience negotiating supplier agreements, commercial terms, and multi-sourcing strategies.
  • Comfort conducting supplier site audits and working closely with Quality and Engineering to assess manufacturing capability.
  • Experience in a hardware, hard tech, or manufacturing environment.
  • Willingness to travel for supplier visits, audits, and contract-manufacturer qualification activities.
Responsibilities
  • Learn the termination subsystem, current supplier base, and existing contract-manufacturer sourcing strategy.
  • Build relationships with key termination component suppliers and understand current lead-time and quality challenges.
  • Support contract-manufacturer sourcing evaluation activities, including outreach, screening, and qualification of candidate contract manufacturers.
  • Partner with Engineering to support internal requests for information and preliminary requests for quotation against early bill-of-materials, computer-aided-design, and drawing releases.
  • Partner with Procurement on approved-vendor-list status and onboarding documentation for termination suppliers.
  • Join Engineering and Quality on supplier site visits or technical and quality capability audits.
  • Own the contract-manufacturer sourcing program for Terminations, driving qualification of partners capable of scaling from prototype to volume builds.
  • Own development of detailed production requests for quotation following design release, incorporating manufacturing requirements, critical-to-quality specifications, and Production Part Approval Process and qualification requirements, in partnership with Engineering.
  • Support Engineering during sample builds and design-for-manufacturability iteration with candidate suppliers, ensuring feedback is incorporated into the design ahead of design lock.
  • Partner with Quality to support supplier Production Part Approval Process submissions, including Part Submission Warrants, dimensional reports, process capability, and material certifications, as part of production qualification.
  • Support process validation and run-at-rate studies to confirm supplier capacity and process capability against forecast.
  • Lead negotiation of supplier agreements, pricing structures, and commercial terms in partnership with Procurement and Finance.
  • Drive multi-sourcing initiatives to reduce single-source risk on specialty termination components, and support second-source qualification for the highest-risk items.
  • Build supplier scorecards and support periodic business reviews as suppliers move into ramp.
  • Partner with Logistics on packaging and shipping plans for termination components and assemblies.
  • Build a multi-year sourcing roadmap for the Terminations commodity in support of VEIR’s scale-up plans.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering.

VEIR develops superconducting power transmission lines using high-temperature superconductors and ambient-air cooling to carry significantly more electricity in a smaller footprint. The lines can transmit 5 to 10 times more power than conventional cables, enabling dense urban grids and easier integration of renewables, data centers, and other high-demand facilities. It works by HTS materials reducing electrical resistance and an air-cooled system that maintains superconductivity without bulky cryogenics. The goal is to expand grid capacity with scalable, cost-efficient, and reliable infrastructure for urban loads and regional upgrades, differentiating itself with compact, air-cooled HTS cables.

VEIR adds Spiesshofer and Vigreux to board as it scales superconducting power for AI data centres

VEIR, a US designer and manufacturer of superconducting data centre power delivery systems, has appointed Ulrich Spiesshofer and Jennifer Vigreux to its board of directors and Greg Mongeau as chief operating officer. The company is backed by Breakthrough Energy Ventures, National Grid Partners, and Microsoft's Climate Innovation Fund. VEIR develops superconducting power delivery systems designed to accelerate deployment and reduce infrastructure costs for data centres facing growing AI-era energy demands. Spiesshofer previously served as CEO of ABB from 2013 to 2019. Vigreux brings over 20 years of experience building commercial relationships and infrastructure supporting the global cloud and AI economy. The appointments come as VEIR transitions from technology development towards commercial deployments following its 3-megawatt demonstration.

Microsoft eyes HTS tech for efficient data centers. February 12, 2026 Microsoft is exploring advanced high-temperature superconductors (HTS) as a potential game-changer for power efficiency in their data centers. These superconductors offer the promise of nearly lossless power delivery due to their ability to eliminate electrical resistance when maintained at cryogenic temperatures. Unlike conventional copper or aluminum wires, HTS can carry higher power densities without the accompanying heat losses. Alistair Speirs, General Manager of Azure infrastructure, highlighted the potential benefits of HTS systems, noting their ability to overcome the constraints of traditional power systems which require extensive infrastructure expansions. By reducing the spatial footprint needed for power distribution, HTS technology could lead to more compact and environmentally friendly data centers. Currently, Microsoft's investment in HTS is still in the early stages, as the cost and availability of superconducting materials present challenges. Microsoft has partnered with Veir, an HTS power delivery firm, which demonstrated promising results with a 3-megawatt transmission in a simulated environment. However, commercial deployment remains a distant goal. While the technology holds potential for a paradigm shift in data center power management, Speirs cautions that further testing and validation are needed to build confidence in HTS systems.
