Responsibilities
  • Review, obtain, and record patient history and the reason for examination, interpret information to evaluate examination appropriateness, and tailor examinations to patients' physical abilities and age-specific needs.
  • Review laboratory values indicating renal function and consult the radiologist about abnormal findings when intravenous contrast media is used.
  • Reconcile patients' at-home medications to identify conflicts with intravenous contrast media.
  • Transport patients safely and assist with examination or procedure preparation while maintaining patient privacy and comfort.
  • Perform venipuncture for patients receiving examinations requiring intravenous contrast media.
  • Prepare a sterile field and assist the radiologist as needed during interventional procedures.
  • Operate computed tomography equipment according to manufacturing specifications, selecting technical factors based on patient body habitus, pathology, age, and physical abilities and limitations.
  • Provide radiation protection for patients and fellow employees while considering age-specific radiation-protection issues.
  • Demonstrate the requested anatomy according to department examination protocols and standards of care.
  • Perform clinical functions related to patient assessment, treatment, and care.
  • Use intravenous contrast media and treat adverse reactions.
  • Prepare completed images for interpretation by the interpreting physician.
  • Use all software applications necessary to complete examinations.
  • Take department call as assigned.
  • Participate in continuing education activities and stay current with changing technology, new procedures, and protocols.
