Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical discipline is required.
  • At least 1 year of engineering experience designing, analyzing, and building mechanical hardware is required; internships and school project team experience qualify.
  • The position requires full-time work in the office in the South Bay area of Los Angeles County.
  • The ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary is required.
  • The ability to travel to reactor construction sites in other states as necessary is required.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and deploy fluid systems to support rapid reactor build and test timelines.
  • Perform detailed fluids analysis to characterize and troubleshoot expected design performance.
  • Work closely with the in-house build shop to develop and own the scaling of the manufacturing line for the system.
  • Support critical reactor test campaigns and operations and provide troubleshooting and technical support.
  • Develop and maintain detailed timelines to capture and communicate project progress.
  • Make high-value decisions on the fly, use feedback to continuously iterate, and develop both product and process.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience leading or working on an engineering competition team such as Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Solar Car, Rocketry, or Cubesat.
  • Ability to perform trade studies and make clear recommendations using first principles and engineering fundamentals with partial information.
  • Experience working at a nimble engineering organization or in a highly technical position requiring a scrappy, entrepreneurial approach under tight time or budget constraints.
  • Hands-on experience with fluid, gas, or thermal systems.
  • Experience using test instrumentation and control components such as pressure transducers, thermocouples, resistance temperature detectors, relays, and solenoid valves.
  • Experience designing highly integrated and complex fluid systems in high-reliability environments.
