Requirements
  • Two years of experience in a clerical environment, preferably in a healthcare environment.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand a medical record is preferred.
  • Basic typing skills are preferred.
  • Knowledge of current International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision (ICD-9) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes is preferred.
  • Ability to manage personal time and the time of others is preferred.
  • Basic math skills are preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Perform as a cross-trained, multifunctional team member of the office practice.
  • Ensure accurate and timely charge capture and billing of office visits and inpatient charges.
  • Perform front-office assistant responsibilities, precertification, scheduling, and other assigned administrative functions.
  • Collect physician and technical superbills or rounding sheets daily.
  • Enter and verify patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Verify medical benefits and obtain preauthorization.
  • Perform cross-trained billing-cycle functions, including charge capture, insurance, collections, payment processing, and outsourced receivables.
