Robinhood crypto trading volume jumps 61% to $17.5B in August

Robinhood's crypto trading volume rose 61% in August to $17.5 billion, the company reported Thursday. The figure remains 38% below August 2023 levels. The Robinhood app handled $7.4 billion, up 72% from July, while Bitstamp, acquired in 2025, contributed $10.1 billion. Crypto now plays a smaller role in Robinhood's business. Event contracts—prediction market bets on outcomes like Federal Reserve decisions—traded 4.7 billion times in August, up roughly 15-fold from the previous year. In July, event contract revenue hit $156 million, overtaking crypto as a transaction income source. Total platform assets reached $384 billion, up 26% year over year, with 28.6 million funded customers. Robinhood Chain, the company's Ethereum layer 2 network, recorded $1.6 billion in daily trading volume as of 1 September. HOOD shares fell 0.83% following the announcement.

Coinbase, operating the largest US crypto exchange, reported $555 million in subscription and services revenue in Q2. Robinhood CEO defends tokenised stocks amid AMC clash, says companies can't control financial products after IPO

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev defended the company's tokenised stocks, stating public companies cannot control financial products built around their shares once they go public. The comments follow AMC CEO Adam Aron's criticism that tokenisation undermines traditional company-shareholder relationships. Tenev explained tokenised stocks are digital representations of securities on blockchain networks. He said whilst issuers control rights and obligations of their stock, they cannot control other companies creating securities that reference those shares. Tenev acknowledged token holders lack voting rights in underlying companies, unlike ordinary shareholders. The tokens are structured as debt securities backed by underlying shares. He declined to specify how Robinhood plans to exercise voting rights attached to those shares.

Robinhood Crypto.com prediction markets partnership.

Robinhood Crypto.com prediction markets partnership. Robinhood will route football prediction contracts to Crypto.com and OG.com starting Sept. 8, adding CFTC venues as volumes hit records. StartupHub.ai Staff Visual TL;DR Volume drives partnershipDriver Robinhood routes contractsCore Signals market growthOutcome Increased market accessOutcome Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ:HOOD) will start routing a selection of football event contracts to Crypto.com venues on Sept. 8, according to Robinhood Newsroom, and the Robinhood Crypto.com prediction markets partnership shows where the volume is already going. StartupHub data Companies working on this. Profiles of the companies named in this story, with funding and a one-liner from our database. Commission-free investing and trading platform for stocks, ETFs, and cryptocurrencies. Contracts will go to Crypto.com | Derivatives North America and the trader-focused OG.com, both CFTC-regulated exchange and clearinghouses, joining Kalshi, ForecastEX and Rothera on Robinhood's router. Volume is the driver. Robinhood reported 13.6 billion event contracts in Q2, more than 5 billion during the World Cup alone, and over 45 billion since launch about two years ago. More than 30 billion traded this year through end of August. This fall the mix shifts to football and midterms. Pro and college football contracts will cover game outcomes, player props and custom combos, routed across OG.com, Kalshi and Rothera based on availability. Robinhood is also launching a dedicated trading hub with live data and filters by week, team and conference. A separate midterms hub will cover state and federal races with heat maps and near real-time vote-count data after polls close. Those election contracts currently route to Kalshi and Rothera, with expansion to Crypto.com and OG.com possible in weeks. Why traders are pricing it this way. Traders crowd football and election contracts because they resolve quickly and track a visible feed, scores or vote counts, so price moves with news flow. Routing to multiple CFTC venues tightens spreads and reduces single venue risk, which matters after record throughput. No edge is guaranteed, prices can gap on injury reports or late returns. What the Robinhood Crypto.com prediction markets partnership signals for founders. Distribution now matters as much as venue. Robinhood owns the retail order flow, Crypto.com and OG.com supply regulated rails, and equity at a $20 billion valuation aligns both sides after Citadel Securities priced the same round. For builders, the venue stack is consolidating around CFTC-licensed exchanges, with Rothera via the Susquehanna International Group joint venture already in the mix. The opportunity is in data and tooling, live stats, team standings, vote counts and combo construction, not in launching another matching engine. Kris Marszalek, founder and CEO of Crypto.com and OG.com, said the goal is to make OG.com the most liquid venue for derivatives starting with prediction markets then futures and perpetuals. JB Mackenzie, VP and GM of Futures and Prediction Markets at Robinhood, tied the timing to football and the fall election calendar. Liquidity is still fragmented and binary resolution is strict. A contract pays out on the official result, so thin books or a contested outcome can leave pricing noisy until settlement. Not financial advice. Markets move fast. (C) 2026 StartupHub.ai. HOOD stock gains overnight: retail gets bullish as Robinhood lands first IPO underwriting gig. Robinhood Markets Inc. (HOOD) has landed its first-ever underwriting opportunity after being named in smart-ring maker Oura's IPO filing last week. This marks the retail brokerage firm's first official foray into underwriting as it works on becoming an all-in-one 'financial super app' that handles everything from everyday spending and credit cards to active trading and retirement. Shares of the company were trading 0.18% higher in the overnight session late Monday. Oura IPO details. San Francisco-based Oura filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday to go public in the country in an offering reportedly valued at over $11 billion. Robinhood, although named last among its underwriters, will join the ranks of Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan, Allen & Co. and Jefferies, which are the lead bookrunners on the deal. Meanwhile, Jason Warnick, former CFO of Robinhood Markets, is also expected to serve on Oura's board of directors following the offering. Robinhood's financial super app goals. Robinhood co-founder and CEO Vlad Tenev has said that he envisions transforming the platform into an all-in-one 'financial super app.' The company has launched several products in recent months, including Robinhood Chain, which supports 24/7 trading of tokenized real-world assets and decentralized finance applications. While not available in the U.S. and certain other jurisdictions, it lets global users trade tokenized representations of U.S. equities and exchange-traded funds around the clock, offering economic exposure without traditional market-hour limits. For instance, U.S. markets were closed on Monday for Labor Day, but Robinhood Chain remained available. "The markets are closed for Labor Day weekend, but Robinhood Chain remains open," Tenev said in a post on X. Founder and CEO of AI Edge Miles Deutscher noted the advantage of 24/7 trading on Robinhood in his post, saying, "People will be able to trade anything, from anywhere, at any time. Markets are getting re-programmed in real time." However, last week, AMC Entertainment Holdings (AMC) CEO Adam Aron raised serious concerns over Robinhood's issuance of tokenized real-world assets, saying they "pretend to be some form of stock ownership, but disclosures to the contrary notwithstanding, they are not ownership and they deprive investors of their rights." Robinhood onchain expansion. Deutscher also noted that Robinhood's prediction markets make more money than its stock trading, adding in a post on X that "We are entering a financial markets gold rush. Prediction markets, crypto, tokenized stocks." Robinhood's prediction markets business generated $156 million in transaction revenue in the second quarter of 2026, up 50% from $104 million in Q1, making event contracts a larger revenue contributor than stock and crypto trading. The surge was driven by strong trading activity, including anticipation around the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with customers trading 13.6 billion prediction contracts during the quarter. Meanwhile, on Friday, Deutsche Bank analyst Brian Bedell raised the price target on Robinhood to $136 from $115 and maintained a Buy rating on the shares, implying an upside of more than 11% from its last close.
