Future Proof Brands, the Austin-based parent company of BeatBox Beverages, is laying off 158 employees by 21 February. The cuts come six weeks after Anheuser-Busch acquired an 85% stake in BeatBox for $490 million, with an option to purchase the remainder within five years. BeatBox, known for its brightly coloured single-serve boxes of wine-based drinks, has experienced significant growth since appearing on "Shark Tank" in 2014, where it secured $1 million from Mark Cuban at a $1.8 million valuation. The company expected to reach over $340 million in sales through 2025. Future Proof Brands also owns Brizzy Seltzer Cocktails, Corkless Canned Wine and Chillitas. The Anheuser-Busch deal is expected to close by April.
