Nike clarifies it stays in S&P 500 after removal from smaller S&P 100 sparks confusion

Nike sent an internal memo to executives clarifying it remains in the S&P 500, after confusion arose from its removal from the smaller S&P 100 index, Bloomberg reported. The memo stated the change "does not affect our business, strategy, operations, or public listing." S&P Dow Jones Indices announced Nike will exit the S&P 100 on 21 September, alongside Honeywell Aerospace, Simon Property Group, and Colgate-Palmolive. They will be replaced by Dell Technologies, Palo Alto Networks, Arista Networks, and Sandisk. Nike's stock has fallen over 40% in 2026, with market capitalisation dropping to roughly $55 billion from a peak near $264 billion in November 2021. The company posted $46.4 billion in fiscal 2026 revenue, down 2% on a currency-neutral basis.

White tennis shoes for fall? Nike, Reebok, Adidas all say so.

White tennis shoes for fall? Nike, Reebok, Adidas all say so. September 8, 2026 4:26pm The sneaker industry has been in a funk all summer, but with the fall fashion season kicking off this week in New York, brands are beginning to tout their next big ideas. And those ideas appear to be quite similar: The white tennis shoe is coming back. On Tuesday, Nike and Reebok announced lifestyle sneaker collaborations with the designer brands Kallmeyer and Celine, respectively. Both collaborations offer a luxury imprint on a classic lifestyle shoe: for Nike, its Tennis Centre sneaker, and for Reebok, its Freestyle Lo. Those collaborations, releasing this week, come on the heels of Adidas executives detailing plans to revive the Stan Smith tennis shoe beginning this fall. Speaking in July about the tennis shoe's revival, Adidas chief executive Bjørn Gulden said, "We have big indications from fashion shows, from consumer groups, from research that this direction is coming." It's not unusual for sneaker brands to align in a similar direction simultaneously. Just three months ago, the major shoe companies outfitting World Cup players each chose a shocking shade of pink for their soccer cleats. But the parallels in Nike, Adidas and Reebok's visions for lifestyle footwear come at a dire moment for the industry, with fashion-oriented footwear selling poorly. In August, Dick's Sporting Goods cut its earnings forecast at subsidiary retailer Foot Locker for the rest of this year, saying lifestyle shoes simply aren't resonating with consumers and will continue to sour through the holiday season. In a response to questions regarding its lifestyle footwear strategy, a Nike spokesman pointed to the company's press release about the Kallmeyer collaboration, which said the designer "brings a new perspective" to the existing Tennis Centre shoe. Spokespeople for Adidas and Reebok didn't respond to requests for comment. To be sure, the Nike x Kallmeyer and Reebok x Celine shoes aren't expected to be distributed at mass retail, instead targeted toward select high-end boutiques and the companies' own stores and websites. Adidas said it will deploy a similar strategy with the Stan Smith. "Remember, when we are testing things, what we do is that we are launching products at the higher end in limited quantities," Gulden told investors on the same July earnings call, adding that they then measure demand in important taste-making markets before scaling up their supply. "Stan Smith has always been a product that when it goes, it actually goes global," he said, "normally driven first [in] Europe, then going to Asia and then less, of course, to a certain target group in the U.S., although right now, ironically, the higher end in the U.S. has actually been very strong in demand. Indeed, the French fashion house Celine first teased its collaboration shoe with Reebok at its menswear runway show in June, according to WWD, before unveiling the full campaign this week. In addition to classic white, the sneaker will be available in seven other colors beginning Thursday. Paris-based Celine is owned by the luxury conglomerate LVMH. Kallmeyer, an independent fashion brand founded by New York City-based designer Daniella Kallmeyer, has dressed WNBA coaches and hosted pop-up events with Nike, but the Tennis Centre sneaker is the first product collaboration, according to Vogue.

Nike ousted from S&P 100 after market cap falls to $57B amid weak growth

Nike will be removed from the S&P 100 index on 21 September, ending an 18-year run in the elite benchmark. The sportswear company will be replaced by four technology firms: Dell Technologies, Palo Alto Networks, Arista Networks and SanDisk. Nike will remain in the broader S&P 500 index. The removal reflects Nike's weakened market position. Its market capitalisation has fallen to approximately $57 billion following stagnant growth. Fiscal 2026 revenue remained nearly flat at $46.4 billion, whilst Nike Direct, digital sales and Greater China revenue all declined. The company's struggles stem from its shift towards direct-to-consumer sales, which led to reduced wholesale emphasis, inventory difficulties and lost retail shelf space. The index reshuffle marks a symbolic shift, with technology companies displacing established consumer brands in Wall Street's most watched benchmarks.

Nike ACG Aireez debuts trail-ready silhouette.

Nike ACG Aireez debuts trail-ready silhouette. Nike's All Conditions Gear division has introduced the Aireez, a fresh take on trail footwear that prioritizes functional minimalism over aggressive visual statements. The shoe marks another chapter in ACG's methodical approach to outdoor performance design. Design philosophy. The Aireez represents Nike ACG's continued refinement of a specific design principle: that trail shoes need not announce themselves through exaggerated proportions or palette saturation. Where contemporary trail running leans toward bold colorblocking and aggressive tread patterning, the Aireez opts for restraint - a design posture that has become increasingly rare in the category. Deal Available 89% OFF Up to 88% OFF Kid's Nike NBA Jerseys (Triple White) $10 $90 Save $80 Shop This Release Nike Caitlin 1 Racer Blue (Women's) $140 Oct 1, 2026 The silhouette introduces a button-up closure system as its defining feature, a design choice that speaks to both aesthetic intention and practical utility. Rather than relying solely on traditional lacing, the structural fastening mechanism offers a secondary layer of lockdown, a detail that suggests Nike ACG's design team was thinking through real-world trail conditions - variable foot swell, rapid elevation changes, the need for quick adjustment. Technical architecture. The Aireez sits within Nike ACG's broader technical vocabulary, positioning itself alongside existing trail and outdoor-focused offerings rather than departing entirely from established patterns. The shoe's material execution and structural choices align with ACG's commitment to functional design; the brand has historically avoided treating technical footwear as a canvas for stylistic excess. Specific material details and cushioning systems remain unconfirmed at this stage, though Nike ACG's recent trail initiatives have favored responsive, durable foam compounds paired with grippy, trail-appropriate rubber compounds. The button-up closure warrants attention as a functional detail - it's not a decorative flourish, but rather an intentional engineering choice meant to address specific performance needs. Nike ACG's evolution. The Aireez's arrival continues a narrative arc that has defined ACG's recent direction: moving away from heritage re-editions and toward original silhouettes designed from the ground up for specific use cases. This approach differs markedly from the brand's early-2010s strategy, which leaned heavily on retro ACG models and collaborations. The new generation of ACG product reflects a studio more confident in contemporary design language.
