JMG, Trane push smarter air conditioning as Nigeria's building boom gathers pace. With the continuous shift in Nigeria's skyline, another demand is quietly growing with it: how to keep the country's expanding commercial, industrial and residential spaces comfortable without adding unnecessarily to the cost of running them. That is bringing renewed attention to cooling and climate-control systems as construction and industrial activity gather pace across the country. At The Big 5 Construct Nigeria 2026 in Lagos, JMG Limited, through its Clima division, and in partnership with Trane Technologies, is highlighting the growing need for cooling systems that deliver both reliable performance and greater energy efficiency. Vineeth Vijayan, Sales Leader, Nigeria and Ghana, Trane Air Conditioning, said the market for cooling and climate control is receiving increasing attention as development accelerates. "Buildings are going up, left, right and centre, and these buildings require cooling, specialised kinds of cooling and commercial cooling," Vijayan said, noting that Trane has solutions across different cooling requirements. For Idoko Jonahs Adejoh, Business Development Manager, HVAC, JMG Limited, however, the conversation goes beyond installing cooling equipment to consider what it will cost to operate over time. He said JMG Clima's partnership with Trane Technologies is helping to provide HVAC systems that are not only designed to cool spaces, but also to improve energy efficiency. "JMG Clima has partnered with Trane Technologies to provide heating, ventilation and cooling systems to Nigeria, not just cooling systems, but cooling systems that are energy efficient," Adejoh said. He added that while some energy-efficient systems may require a higher initial investment, the long-term savings can make them worthwhile. "The initial investment into this might be a bit high, but in the long run, it cuts down on your energy consumption, giving you good value for your investment," he said. The point is increasingly relevant to businesses where the cost of powering and maintaining facilities can weigh heavily on daily operations. JMG's relationship with Trane also provides customers with local support across the sales and after-sales process, according to Vijayan. "Customers are benefiting not really only on the sales aspect, but also on the after-sales aspect," he said. As more buildings rise across Nigeria, the cooling industry is facing a market that is not only asking for comfort, but demanding efficiency, reliability and value over the life of the equipment. Trane Technologies adds AI tools for repairs and part replacements. Trane Technologies is expanding its artificial intelligence (AI) offerings for building owners and facilities teams, including a new maintenance platform designed to centralize equipment records and maintenance workflows and help inform repair and replacement decisions. The heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and climate control equipment manufacturer announced that the offerings will span building analytics, maintenance management, connected controls and thermal management. "As building operations become more connected and more complex, we're evolving our AI and digital portfolio to help customers operate with greater clarity and control," said Chris Tanaka, vice president of product management at Trane Technologies. Maintenance Manager centralizes all the pieces that go into facility management. The company said it connects work orders, asset records, repair history and supporting documentation in one system. Trane Technologies said it enables better coordination between service teams and more informed decisions about whether to repair aging equipment or begin planning for replacements. "With Trane Cloud Analytics and Maintenance Manager, customers can connect building data, service workflows and asset history to support earlier action, better coordination and more informed planning," Tanaka said. "Across the broader portfolio, these new solutions extend that same approach into controls and system management to help customers improve performance and reduce waste over time." The rest of Trane's new product suite. Trane Cloud Analytics gives teams access to performance trends and efficiency gaps from connected building equipment. The company also designed a new Cloud Connected BACnet Thermostat to bring cloud-based building management to light commercial buildings that don't have a full-building management system in place. Tracer Zone Sensors are designed to simplify installation and setup for new construction and retrofit projects, and AI Control for Water Systems adjusts chiller plants to improve efficiency across existing infrastructure. For data centers specifically, the announcement includes Chiller Plant Management and Data Hall Team Control. Both are designed to coordinate climate control over complex environments. "As data center growth drives higher cooling loads, tighter performance requirements and faster response expectations, thermal management is becoming increasingly integral to uptime, efficiency and long-term infrastructure strategy," said Oakley Roberts, president of data centers at Trane Technologies. "Intelligent, coordinated cooling systems are becoming essential to operating modern AI and mission-critical infrastructure at scale. These innovations help customers improve available capacity, strengthen resilience and maintain consistent thermal performance as computing demands continue to accelerate." How Trane got here. BrainBox AI is a Montreal-based company that had developed an AI platform to predict energy needs and automate HVAC operations. That acquisition built on a two-year collaboration between the companies. It also brought BrainBox's predictive control capabilities directly into Trane's product development pipeline. In 2025, Trane opened a dedicated BrainBox AI lab and showroom focused on AI and energy management in buildings. The investment in AI has occurred alongside growth for Trane. In its most recent fiscal quarter ended June 30, bookings were up 39% year over year. Meanwhile, net revenue grew 11% over the same period, to $6.35 billion.
