  • Basic ability to read, write, and perform four-function math, demonstrated by successfully passing a written examination, is required.

Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative, clerical, and patient care support to inpatient nursing units under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Respond to queries from physicians, nursing staff, and visitors while protecting confidential patient information.
  • File documents in patient charts, answer telephones, and take and transmit messages to unit staff.
  • Coordinate admissions, discharges, and transfers while promoting patient flow.
  • Update patient accommodation codes in the electronic health record and fax discharge paperwork to appropriate facilities.
  • Complete daily unit walkthroughs to ensure environments meet regulatory requirements.
  • Organize work areas, inventory and order supplies, store supplies, and track work requests for repairs and improvements.
  • Collect, submit, and analyze data for audits as requested.
  • Operate computer and office equipment, understand downtime procedures, assign iPhones to staff, and update census display boards.
  • Take and enter patient temperatures, EKGs, bladder scans, blood sugar readings, and weights into the electronic medical record as directed.
  • Use mobile and ceiling lifts, apply bedside cardiac monitors, discontinue telemetry leads as directed, and report unusual patient observations to the nurse.
  • Collect urine and stool specimens, perform point-of-care testing after competency completion, assist with toileting devices, and measure and record intake and output.
  • Provide personal care, preventative skin care, ambulation assistance, repositioning, range-of-motion exercises, bed-making, and shaving when permitted.
  • Perform basic clinical procedures such as changing simple dressings, performing EKGs, setting up oxygen equipment, assisting with coughing and deep breathing, using incentive spirometers, applying compresses, and applying compression devices.
  • Set up patient rooms and, when assigned, hemodynamic monitoring; assist with postmortem care.
  • Provide nutritional support by ordering meals, setting up trays, feeding patients, assisting with special diets and swallowing precautions, and assisting with nasogastric tube care.
  • Carry out patient safety interventions, participate in safety rounds, and perform required fall-risk, toileting, observation, side-rail, alarm, and restraint procedures.
  • Function as a patient safety attendant after completing required competency training.
  • Follow infection-control policies, including hand hygiene, isolation protocols, and cleaning patient-care equipment.
  • Follow procedures for access to non-controlled medications when authorized.
  • Assist with orienting new Nurse Associates.
  • Maintain confidentiality, comply with organizational standards and policies, participate in quality-improvement activities, complete mandatory education, and perform other duties as directed.

Beth Israel Lahey Health rolls out Heidi's AI scribing to all physicians after 90% report better patient presence

Beth Israel Lahey Health is rolling out Heidi's ambient AI scribing tool to all its physicians following a successful trial across its facilities. The health system, which serves over 6,000 providers across 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices, prioritises addressing physician burnout, with nearly half of US physicians reporting burnout. During a six-month trial offering Heidi to 1,000 providers, the majority adopted the technology. Survey results showed 89% were satisfied with note quality, 90% felt more present with patients, 74% reduced after-hours work time, and 82% experienced reduced cognitive load during visits. The implementation demonstrates how ambient AI can deliver immediate relief to physicians whilst benefiting patients and the healthcare system. Heidi supports over 2 million consultations weekly globally and has raised $96.6 million from investors including Point72 Private Investments and Blackbird.
