Requirements
  • A Registered Nurse license in good standing for the State of Michigan is required.
  • At least one year of experience is required.
  • Nurses who do not hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher nursing degree must obtain one within eight years of hire.
  • Basic PC skills to operate the department's database and office programs are required and may be acquired after hire.
  • Effective communication with patients, managers, employees, physicians, customers, and team members is required.
  • Ability to handle conflict assertively, resolve issues diplomatically, and participate in problem-solving is required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally assist with heavier tasks, including pushing, pulling, or handling materials and equipment, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assess, monitor, and provide appropriate professional nursing care to patients throughout their stay in the Cardiovascular Services Laboratory.
  • Document abnormalities in physical assessments, recommended interventions, patient responses, physician orders, and appropriate nursing and patient records.
  • Assist physicians with invasive cardiology procedures, including heart catheterizations, intra-aortic balloon pump insertion, pacemaker insertion, and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator insertion.
  • Function as scrub nurse, circulator, and/or recorder in diagnostic cases, and as circulator or recorder in intervention cases.
  • Set up the sterile table according to the procedure.
  • Prepare and drape patients appropriately and use proper sterile techniques during procedures.
  • Prepare and operate procedural equipment, including radiographic equipment and related monitoring and recording equipment.
  • Anticipate and assist with the physician's needs during procedures.
  • Communicate significant data to physicians and other team members as each case proceeds.
  • Administer medications when required.
  • Manage images for physician review and the permanent record.
  • Accurately document and charge procedures; enter and record laboratory values, pressure waveforms, electrocardiograms, physical assessments, and other pertinent information in logs and computer systems; and process related paperwork.
  • Order and maintain appropriate levels of medications and routine laboratory supplies.
  • Keep instruments and equipment clean and functional; perform minor repairs, calibrations, and adjustments; and notify a supervisor when special service or maintenance is needed.
  • Maintain current professional knowledge of diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular technologies.
  • Work additional on-call hours beyond the regular schedule and work weekends and holidays.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of clinical experience in adult cardiac critical care and/or cardiovascular laboratory training is preferred.
