Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree or more than five years of experience in management, leadership, or Human Resources management is required.
  • At least two years of proven experience with the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities is required.
  • One year of experience in staff training and audit reviews is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required, including the ability to drive a large vehicle such as a wheelchair-accessible vehicle or 15-seat van.
  • Certification as an investigator is required.
  • SCIP-R and First Aid/CPR certification is required.
  • Availability by phone and Lotus Notes access 24 hours a day, seven days a week is required.
  • The candidate must demonstrate respect and consideration for residents served.
  • The candidate must have organizational, time-management, interpersonal, and customer-service skills.
Responsibilities
  • Attend meetings and training provided by the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities.
  • Participate as an active member of the Incident Review Committee.
  • Assist the Quality Assurance/Training Coordinator with the quality assurance program and audit procedures for the DDS network.
  • Assist in creating uniform standards for forms and procedures across the DDS network.
  • Assist in implementing routine, scheduled employee training in CPR, First Aid, SCIP-R, and other training deemed necessary by the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities.
  • Assist in conducting new-employee training classes for DDS staff.
  • Conduct scheduled audits of ICF, IRA, and Family Care homes to verify compliance with TSA, New York State, and New York City policies, directives, and laws.
  • Conduct unscheduled inspections of ICF, IRA, and Family Care homes to verify compliance with TSA, New York State, and New York City policies, directives, and laws.
  • File incidents into the WSIR system.
  • Ensure facilities maintain effective incident-management programs that reduce unusual incidents, including injuries and confirmed allegations of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
  • Ensure incident reports are filed as required by the funder and The Salvation Army and that corrective actions are implemented.
  • Provide independent reports to the Quality Assurance/Training Coordinator, Director of Social Services, and/or DDS Director on inspections and audits.
  • Assist with providing and scheduling special training to improve quality of care in DDS homes, including activities of daily living, food planning and preparation, house and room maintenance, budgeting, and money management.
  • Serve as a secondary auditor of residents' finances and funds and ensure funds are not misspent or misused.
  • Complete unannounced visits and provide written reports of findings.
  • Independently investigate incident reports involving possible neglect, mistreatment, abuse, harassment, civil-rights violations, or other potential harm to residents.
  • Work with Program Managers and Assistant Program Managers to improve programs and services, increase community-inclusion opportunities, streamline operations, and reduce spending.
  • Support collective purchasing while recognizing that each unit has an independent budget.
  • Assist the DDS GNY Property department in ensuring all locations are in good repair and safe for human life.
  • Maintain and submit timely, accurate records and reports concerning resident health and safety and program quality.
  • Assist with submitting documents into IRMA and serve as liaison among the Quality Assurance Coordinator, the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities, and the Justice Center regarding incidents.
  • Maintain ongoing knowledge of each resident's medical, psychological, cognitive, and social needs and ensure programming is appropriate to treatment goals.
  • Assist individuals with skill development in activities of daily living, domestic living, recreation, and socialization.
  • Review incidents and investigations occurring at programs.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
