CPR flash mob brings awareness to new lifesaving app.

CPR flash mob brings awareness to new lifesaving app. The American Heart Association, NewView Training and the Omaha Fire Department are promoting PulsePoint Respond, a free app that alerts nearby bystanders when someone goes into cardiac arrest. A new free app, PulsePoint Respond, alerts nearby trained bystanders to cardiac arrest emergencies in Omaha-area counties. Posted 46 minutes ago I'm your Gretna and Sarpy County neighborhood reporter. I dive into the stories that impact the people living and working in this fast-growing part of the metro. CENTRAL OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - Concertgoers at Stinson Park got an unexpected lesson in lifesaving when a flash mob broke into CPR, set to the beat of the classic song "Stayin' Alive." With October being Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month and Oct. 16 marking "World Restart a Heart Day," the American Heart Association teamed up with NewView Training and the Omaha Fire Department to push a new app called PulsePoint Respond. The app connects directly to the local dispatch system to mobilize bystanders. "The app is embedded with our dispatch center, so when a call comes in for cardiac arrest the app will scan the area around the victim and will send out alerts to anyone close by who is willing to do CPR," Dave Keber Paramedic Supervisor with the Omaha Fire Department said. The app is free to download, and organizers say if you're able to help in a cardiac arrest emergency you could double or triple someone's chances of surviving. "In order to survive cardiac arrest we really need the community to step up and provide CPR. It's usually about 4 to 6 minutes before EMS gets there, and that's enough for a 40 to 60% decline in survivability," Keber said. For CPR to be effective, the song "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees offers a helpful guide to the proper pace. "The rate that the song 'Stayin' Alive' by the Bee Gees gets you on is a rate of 100 to 120, and that's where we always want to see people compress," said Bethany Clark, founder of NewView Training. Training more members of the community could mean more help is always within reach. "The more people we can have trained in the community and having people within arms reach to respond in those emergencies can literally be the difference between life and death," Clark said. Right now the PulsePoint app is available in Sarpy, Douglas, Washington and Lincoln counties, but the Omaha Fire Department says they hope to expand to more counties in the near future. Monument Health launches second Community Heart Hub.

Monument Health launches second Community Heart Hub. October 14, 2026 Rapid City, S.D. (Oct. 14, 2026) - Monument Health, in collaboration with the Sturgis Public Library and the American Heart Association, has opened its second Community Heart Hub, a free blood pressure monitoring station inside the library. The Heart Hub gives adults a dedicated space to check their blood pressure, learn about blood pressure categories and access health resources. The station features an automated blood pressure cuff and educational materials. Since the first Community Heart Hub opened at the Rapid City Public Library in June 2025, the station has been used for more than 1,500 blood pressure checks. "High blood pressure often has no symptoms, so many people do not know they have it until it becomes a serious problem," said Jimmy Seward, Sturgis Clinic Director at Monument Health. "By placing a free blood pressure station in the library, a place people already visit, we are meeting our neighbors where they are and making it easier for them to know their numbers and take the next step toward better heart health." Monument Health plans to open additional Heart Hubs in other Black Hills communities.

MoneyStack raises $1M to integrate financial counseling into gambling addiction treatment

MoneyStack, a financial counselling platform for behavioural healthcare, has raised $1 million in funding led by Cistern Capital. The American Heart Association's Social Impact Funds, O'Shaughnessy Ventures, Sidecut Ventures, Gaingels and angel investors also participated. This brings the company's total funding to nearly $2 million. The platform integrates financial counsellors into behavioural healthcare programmes, initially focusing on gambling addiction. MoneyStack addresses financial crises — including debt and tax issues — that can complicate treatment and recovery for conditions like gambling disorder. Research shows 86% of people with mental health problems said their finances worsened their condition, whilst 72% reported their mental health problems worsened their finances. Financial struggles were cited in 73% of calls to the National Problem Gambling Helpline in 2025. MoneyStack will use the funding to develop technology for financial counselling within behavioural healthcare and create tools to identify early signs of financial harm.
