Requirements
  • Graduate from an ARRT-recognized education program, or be ARRT or ARMRIT registered, or ARRT or ARMRIT registry eligible.
  • Obtain advanced MRI registry within one year of hire.
  • Obtain current Basic Life Support certification within three months of hire.
  • Demonstrate competency in venipuncture for patients requiring contrast administration during MRI studies.
  • Demonstrate competency in relevant Radiology Information System and Hospital Information System modules.
  • Comply with MRI safety requirements and have no metal implants or pacemaker that contraindicate working around the MRI magnet.
  • Be able to push, pull, and lift patients up to 400 pounds with assistance and lift or move objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Be able to frequently use hands and fingers to operate equipment and chart information, sit for up to five hours, and stand or walk for up to three hours.
Responsibilities
  • Perform MRI examinations on patients according to department procedures and under the direction of the department section chief and manager.
  • Maintain technical continuity of care for patients receiving MRI studies.
  • Communicate clinical observations and present documented clinical history to radiologists.
  • Assist with gathering and recording data and serve as a committee member for the Radiology Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement program.
  • Follow downtime procedures to ensure appropriate information is available for continuity of patient care.
  • Provide educational information to patients regarding their examinations.
  • Ensure the quality of digital images sent to the Picture Archiving and Communication System; verify patient selection and medical-record information before transmission.
  • Review the patient safety checklist before each study.
  • Maintain professional development through in-service and continuing-education programs.
  • Support department patient-experience goals by providing patient education, personalized business cards, and apology cards when expectations are not met.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of experience as a staff technologist.
  • One year of experience as an MRI technologist.
