Withum expands west: Withum adds Farber Hass Hurley in California.

Withum expands west: Withum adds Farber Hass Hurley in California. CPA Practice Advisor reports that Withum, a Princeton, NJ-based top 20 firm, has added Farber Hass Hurley, a public accounting and tax firm headquartered in Chatsworth, CA, effective Sept. 1. The announcement signals geographic expansion and additional tax and accounting capacity in California for Withum. What the source says: CPA Practice Advisor reports that Withum, a top-20 firm based in Princeton, NJ, has added Farber Hass Hurley, a public accounting and tax firm headquartered in Chatsworth, California, effective Sept. 1. The source frames this as an addition to Withum's footprint. Why this matters to CPA firms: Geographical additions like this typically involve integrating client rosters, staff, and systems. For managing partners and COOs, the immediate operational implications are integration planning (systems, workflows, and supervision) and assessing where the combined capacity relieves or strains current service delivery. Expect near-term human-labor needs for integration tasks-IT mapping, file conversions, policy alignment, and state-specific tax and licensing checks-followed by potential net capacity gains as duplicate roles are rationalized. Impact on professional judgment and risk: Merging practices across states can introduce differences in methodology, documentation standards, and quality-control practices. Firms will need to reconcile those differences to maintain consistent professional judgment and supervision. There is also an operational risk window during and immediately after integration when oversight gaps can increase the likelihood of errors. Economic and client-capacity implications: Expanding into California may enable Withum to cross-sell services and grow revenue lines regionally, but it also requires upfront integration costs and possible short-term billing disruptions. For practice leaders, the opportunity is to redeploy freed capacity into higher-margin advisory work while managing the transitional cost of aligning staff and systems.
