Requirements
- The position requires an MD or DO and completion of advanced graduate medical education in Internal Medicine, with board eligibility or board certification in Internal Medicine. Family-practice-trained physicians with previous hospitalist experience may be considered.
- Training experiences mandated by the American Board of Internal Medicine for board eligibility are required.
- Previous experience and demonstrated procedural skills in intubations and central lines are required, along with the ability to lead Code Blue events.
- The physician must be proficient with Microsoft Office software.
- The physician must have previous experience with an electronic medical record system.
- The Hospitalist must maintain a current unrestricted license to practice medicine in Illinois, federal and state prescriptive authority, and board certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Responsibilities
- Examine, diagnose, and treat assigned acutely ill hospitalized patients at Community First Medical Center.
- Manage assigned patients throughout the continuum of hospital care, including following patients admitted to the intensive care unit throughout their hospital stay.
- Coordinate post-acute care for assigned patients.
- Lead Rapid Response and Code Blue events and collaborate with advanced practice providers and the Emergency Department for procedural support as needed.
- Diagnose and manage clinical issues and deliver and coordinate comprehensive medical care to acutely ill hospitalized patients.
- Order treatment regimens and tests and interpret laboratory and radiology results.
- Prescribe medications as appropriate and required.
- Conduct patient contact, rounding, and care management while incorporating professional input from all members of the patient care team.
- Consult with specialty and primary care physicians when appropriate.
- Communicate with the interdisciplinary care team, family members, and others upon admission, when treatment plans change, and at discharge to maintain continuity and quality of care.
- Conduct discharge planning and ensure timely discharge of patients.
- Complete clinical and professional records and documentation accurately and promptly in compliance with regulatory, licensure, and accreditation requirements.
- Supervise Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
- Participate in Code Blue and Rapid Response Team management.
- Collaborate with employees and physicians to support an engaging work environment.
- Support interdisciplinary communication, patient throughput, and length-of-stay improvement.
- Work a 7-on/7-off rotation with 12-hour shifts, including separate AM, PM, and weekend coverage roles.
