Requirements
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-R) is required.
  • New graduates must obtain primary certification prior to the start date.
  • Advanced certification of ARRT-VI, ARRT-CI, and/or ARRT-CV must be obtained within two (2) years of hire date.
  • Applicants hired after March 10, 2024, must complete steps required for advancing to level 2, including advanced certification, within 24 months of hire.
  • Graduate from an accredited cardiovascular technology specialty training program or Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT).
  • Advanced certification of Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) must be obtained within two (2) years of date of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months of date of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 6 months of date of hire (Geisinger Medical Center campus only).

Responsibilities
  • Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality.
  • Utilizes appropriate imaging protocol and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety, optimizing patient care, and applying principles of ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable).
  • Preparing and/or administering, as applicable, medications through new or existing vascular access site as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Evaluates images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality and verifies archival storage and/or transfer of data, post processing of data if applicable.
  • Educating and monitoring students and other health care providers.
  • Assists or performs diagnostic, fluoroscopic, or interventional procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Maintains intra-arterial access as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Panning of the procedure table during image production.
  • Participates in physiological monitoring of patients.
  • Performing manual hemostasis during and after the procedure.
  • Operates and ensures the quality control of hemodynamic recording devices, electrocardiogram monitoring equipment/cardiac stimulator, oxygen consumption equipment, and blood analysis equipment.
  • Initiates ACLS protocols as required for cardiac roles.
  • Performs non-interpretive fluoroscopic procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Maintains and removes peripherally inserted central catheters as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Practice of sterile technique preparing for procedure including scrubbing, applying surgical gown, gloving, draping and setup of instrument table.
  • Records, monitors, and assesses hemodynamic/electrogram data collected during procedures.
