About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of professional software engineering experience, with strong general-purpose programming in Java, Go, or Python rather than solely scripting.
  • Write and review production-grade code for internal platform tooling, including command-line interfaces, operators, controllers, and automation services, using tests, code review, and versioning.
  • Extend or contribute to shared Spring Boot libraries and starter packs used by other engineering teams.
  • Understand software design fundamentals, including API design, concurrency, error handling, and backward compatibility, to review infrastructure and application pull requests credibly.
  • Debug across the full stack, from Kubernetes scheduling failures to Spring Boot stack traces and Hibernate query plans.
  • Have deep expertise in GitHub Actions, including reusable and composite workflows, matrix builds, self-hosted runners, caching strategies, and secure secret handling in continuous integration.
  • Manage repository governance at scale, including branch protection rules, required status checks, CODEOWNERS, and merge queue strategy across multiple repositories or a monorepo.
  • Use GitHub Advanced Security, including secret scanning and push protection, CodeQL code scanning, and Dependabot policy and triage.
  • Build internal automation with GitHub Apps and fine-grained access tokens against the GitHub API rather than relying on personal access tokens.
  • Configure GitHub Environments, including deployment protection rules, required reviewers, and environment-scoped secrets as promotion gates into staging and production.
  • Design organization and team permissions using least privilege, audit logging, and SSO/SAML integration.
  • Have production experience with GitOps tooling such as ArgoCD or Flux to manage declarative, Git-driven deployments across multiple environments and clusters.
  • Use Terraform for cloud provisioning and Helm charts or Kustomize for Kubernetes manifests.
  • Implement progressive delivery, including canary and blue-green rollouts and automated rollback triggers tied to health signals.
  • Integrate secrets management into pipelines using Vault, Sealed Secrets, or cloud-native secret stores.
  • Have deep Kubernetes knowledge, including deployments, StatefulSets, ConfigMaps, Secrets, resource quotas, horizontal and vertical pod autoscaling, and network policies.
  • Design multi-tenant clusters with namespace isolation, per-tenant resource boundaries, and workload scheduling.
  • Have cloud platform experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, including networking, IAM, managed Kubernetes (EKS, AKS, or GKE), and managed databases.
  • Implement container image strategies, including multi-stage Docker builds, base image hardening, registries, and vulnerability scanning.
  • Build and maintain observability stacks using structured logging, distributed tracing, and metrics such as Prometheus and Grafana or equivalent.
  • Define service-level indicators, service-level objectives, and alerting thresholds in partnership with engineering teams.
  • Handle incident response through on-call practices, runbooks, and postmortems that result in platform-level fixes.

Responsibilities

  • Build and run the platform that engineering teams deploy onto: a multi-tenant, cloud-native SaaS environment supporting modernization of a large-scale financial system from on-premises systems to Kubernetes-based microservices.
  • Write production-grade code for owned platform tooling and understand the Spring Boot services running on the platform well enough to debug deployment issues at the application layer as well as the infrastructure layer.
  • Partner with engineering teams during design and identify operability, security, and scaling concerns before code is written.
  • Design deployment and rollback paths that reduce customer-facing risk by default.
  • Mentor other engineers on continuous integration and delivery and platform practices, and contribute to architecture discussions beyond infrastructure.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience migrating workloads from on-premises or JBoss-style deployments into Kubernetes.
  • Experience operating Kafka or RabbitMQ, including cluster management, topic or queue scaling, and consumer lag monitoring.
  • Policy-as-code experience with OPA/Gatekeeper, admission controllers, or compliance-as-code for regulated environments.
  • Exposure to financial services, including awareness of audit, resiliency, and change-control expectations for banking customers.
