Portuguese AI startup DeepNeuronic acquired by Motorola Solutions

Portuguese AI startup DeepNeuronic has been acquired by Motorola Solutions. The financial terms were not disclosed. Founded five years ago by Vasco Lopes and Bruno Degardin, DeepNeuronic develops software that converts standard cameras into real-time analysis systems. The technology uses AI to interpret video footage as it is captured, transforming it into immediate operational information that allows organisations to respond to incidents as they occur. The Covilhã-based company currently operates in airports, bridges, motorways, petrol stations, industrial units, and commercial spaces. It serves clients in Portugal and has a subsidiary in Brazil focused on mobility and security operations. DeepNeuronic's technology will be integrated into Avigilon, Motorola Solutions' video security platform, making it available to customers in over 100 countries. The startup's 17-person team will join Motorola Solutions whilst remaining based in Covilhã. Since its founding in 2021, DeepNeuronic had raised over €2.5 million from business angels and venture capital funds.

Motorola Solutions' APX NEXT XN becomes first radio to achieve NFPA 1930 certification

Motorola Solutions announced that its APX NEXT XN P25 smart radio and XVN500 remote speaker microphone are the first in the industry to achieve the National Fire Protection Association's NFPA 1930 certification. This latest standard supersedes NFPA 1802 and represents the highest level of ruggedisation with new software safety protocols. The devices underwent rigorous testing, including exposure to direct flame, heat testing to 500 degrees Fahrenheit, and drop testing from 9.8 feet. The latest APX NEXT XN model adds low earth orbit satellite connectivity to LMR and broadband, extending coverage to approximately half a million square miles of the US traditionally unreachable by land-based cellular towers. Firefighters can now access voice-enabled applications including SmartQuery for agency policies and SmartTranslate for voice-to-voice translation in the field.
