Requirements
  • An active Registered Respiratory Therapist credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care is required.
  • An active California Respiratory Care Practitioner license is required.
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist certification from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists is required.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of respiratory therapy experience is required.
  • A minimum of 1 year of critical care experience is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of polysomnography experience is required.
  • Experience performing full-night polysomnograms and split-night studies is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform and monitor full-night polysomnography studies.
  • Conduct split-night diagnostic and titration studies.
  • Apply sleep staging using electroencephalography, electrooculography, and electromyography according to Rechtschaffen and Kales standards.
  • Perform continuous positive airway pressure and bilevel positive airway pressure titration studies.
  • Continuously record airflow, oximetry, electrocardiography, and electromyography.
  • Maintain technical sleep logs manually and electronically.
  • Perform scoring and documentation.
  • Respond appropriately to abnormal findings.
  • Ensure patient safety throughout testing.
  • Manage invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
  • Set up continuous positive airway pressure, auto-adjusting positive airway pressure, and bilevel positive airway pressure devices.
  • Respond to Rapid Response and Code Blue events.
  • Provide airway management and ventilatory support.
  • Perform and interpret arterial blood gas sampling.
  • Educate patients and families on respiratory therapies.
  • Collaborate with Pulmonary and Critical Care teams.
