Requirements
- An active Registered Respiratory Therapist credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care is required.
- An active California Respiratory Care Practitioner license is required.
- Registered Polysomnographic Technologist certification from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists is required.
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification is required.
- Current Basic Life Support certification is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of respiratory therapy experience is required.
- A minimum of 1 year of critical care experience is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of polysomnography experience is required.
- Experience performing full-night polysomnograms and split-night studies is required.
Responsibilities
- Perform and monitor full-night polysomnography studies.
- Conduct split-night diagnostic and titration studies.
- Apply sleep staging using electroencephalography, electrooculography, and electromyography according to Rechtschaffen and Kales standards.
- Perform continuous positive airway pressure and bilevel positive airway pressure titration studies.
- Continuously record airflow, oximetry, electrocardiography, and electromyography.
- Maintain technical sleep logs manually and electronically.
- Perform scoring and documentation.
- Respond appropriately to abnormal findings.
- Ensure patient safety throughout testing.
- Manage invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
- Set up continuous positive airway pressure, auto-adjusting positive airway pressure, and bilevel positive airway pressure devices.
- Respond to Rapid Response and Code Blue events.
- Provide airway management and ventilatory support.
- Perform and interpret arterial blood gas sampling.
- Educate patients and families on respiratory therapies.
- Collaborate with Pulmonary and Critical Care teams.
