Niche has launched Financial Aid Decoder, a tool within its free True Cost platform to help families compare college financial aid offers. The feature allows users to upload aid letters and receive standardised, side-by-side breakdowns that clarify grants, loans, net price and funding gaps. The tool addresses the challenge of comparing offers across colleges, which use varying formats for aid letters. It provides itemised views of direct and indirect costs and can include True Cost estimates covering expenses like travel and books often omitted from official letters. Early pilot testing showed 84% of families adjusted their college lists after reviewing personalised True Cost reports. The platform is powered by Niche's proprietary data and a partnership with College Aid Pro. Financial Aid Decoder is now available at niche.com/truecost.

New England College joins Niche Direct Admissions, offering immediate acceptance and scholarships for qualified students. NEC partners with Niche to expand access and streamline the college admissions experience. New England College (NEC) announces its participation in Niche Direct Admissions(R), an innovative program designed to make the college application process simpler, faster, and more accessible for students and families nationwide. Through this partnership, students who create a profile on Niche and meet NEC's established academic criteria will receive an immediate offer of admission and scholarship consideration - no traditional application required. "New England College has always been committed to meeting students where they are," said Brad Poznanski, Vice President for Enrollment at New England College. "Partnering with Niche allows us to remove barriers and open doors for students who might not have otherwise considered NEC. It's about creating opportunity, offering clarity, and showing that college can be both affordable and achievable from the very first step." Direct admission programs are growing rapidly across the country as colleges seek new ways to connect with prospective students. The approach offers a more transparent and inclusive process - especially for first-generation, Pell Grant - eligible, and underrepresented students - by helping them understand their options early and with greater confidence. Each year, half of college-bound high school seniors build a profile on Niche, which serves more than 50 million users annually who research and compare institutions. Through Niche Direct Admissions, qualified students can instantly see where they've been accepted, view scholarship offers, and learn more about schools like NEC - all within their Niche accounts. "Niche is changing how colleges connect with students and build their future incoming classes," said Luke Skurman, founder and CEO of Niche. "Niche Direct Admissions provides admissions teams the tools to deliver the speed, transparency, and personalization today's students and families expect."
How to compare the cost of college. * What is Niche.com * How Vivaday Llc tested the new cost comparison tool * The results * How accurate is it? Founded in 2002, Niche.com was created to help students and families make informed college decisions through a centralized platform of rankings and data. Now recently, as of November 5th 2025, Niche released a new college cost comparison tool which Vivaday Llc is going to review in this blog. (You can find the cost comparison tool here.) For families deep in the college search, Niche's goal is simple: find a school that fits your student academically and socially, and makes financial sense. That last part has never been harder. The cost of tuition has increased more than 1,200% in the past 20 years, while the average starting salary for college graduates has only grown 49% in the same time. It's no wonder that affordability has become one of the biggest deciding factors for parents today. Niche's new tool aims to simplify that process by calculating the true cost of college - showing side-by-side comparisons of what you can actually expect to pay at each school, all in one place. Currently, families have to visit every university's website and manually enter their information into each school's "Net Price Calculator." That process is not only tedious and time-consuming but often unreliable. In fact, hundreds of parents Vivaday Llc has spoken with recently have said their biggest frustration during the college search is the lack of transparency around cost and student life. The Breakdown: To keep things simple, Vivaday Llc tested Niche's new True Cost tool in three steps: * Vivaday Llc started with a list of 10 schools - the average number on most students' college lists. * For each of the 10 schools, Vivaday Llc went directly to the university's website, found their official Net Price Calculator, and entered the exact same information for each. This gave Vivaday Llc a clear baseline for comparison. Step 3: Use Niche's new "True Cost" tool and compare results. * Finally, Vivaday Llc entered that same information into Niche's new tool to see how its estimates stacked up against the universities' own calculators. In short: Niche's True Cost tool is faster, easier, and far more user-friendly than most university websites. All Vivaday Llc had to do was enter the colleges Vivaday Llc wanted to compare and provide basic information - things like GPA, household income, how much Vivaday Llc could contribute each year, and so on. Within about two minutes, Niche generated a detailed side-by-side cost breakdown for all 10 schools. * A 4-year summary of total costs and estimated financial aid * Financial fit analysis showing whether each choice was a safe or risky financial decision * Over/under budget indicators based on the family's stated budget * 5-year loan repayment outlook, calculated using average starting salaries in your location * Overall fit score, pulling from Niche's extensive college rankings and student data * Living cost estimates that factor in off-campus housing options after freshman year - something Niche can uniquely calculate because of its expanding database on neighborhoods, K - 12 schools, and local housing The beauty of this tool is in the efficiency. Instead of opening ten separate browser tabs and entering the same data into every school's website, families can now compare all their colleges side-by-side in one place. What used to take an hour can now be done in minutes. When it comes to accuracy, the results were mixed. In its test, 2 out of 10 schools showed cost estimates that were about $30,000 higher per year on the university's calculator than on Niche. For the other 8 schools, Niche's estimates were typically $5,000 - $15,000 lower per year than what the university calculators reported. While this variation is significant, it also highlights just how inconsistent universities' own cost calculators can be. For families, having one centralized tool that makes these comparisons easier - even if not perfect - is a big step forward. Get more student insights. Connect with current students and get personalized answers to your college questions.
