Requirements
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law in South Carolina.
  • At least one year of workers’ compensation defense litigation experience.
  • Knowledge of workers’ compensation laws, procedures, and claims management, with the ability to manage a caseload from inception through resolution.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills, including the ability to prepare persuasive motions, briefs, position statements, and client communications.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, collaborate within a team-oriented practice, and take ownership of assigned matters.
Responsibilities
  • Independently manage a caseload, oversee critical deadlines, and develop legal strategies for workers’ compensation claims.
  • Conduct depositions of claimants, fact witnesses, medical providers, and expert witnesses.
  • Prepare and argue motions, draft legal briefs and position statements, represent clients in mediations, and prepare for and appear at hearings before the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission.
  • Evaluate and analyze new and existing claims, investigate factual and legal issues, review and interpret medical records, and provide strategic counsel to clients throughout the life of a case.
  • Manage all aspects of discovery, negotiate settlements, prepare client reports, and communicate with clients regarding litigation strategy, case developments, exposure assessments, and resolution opportunities.
  • Collaborate with firm attorneys and interact with insurance adjusters, risk managers, employers, claims professionals, medical experts, and opposing counsel.
Desired Qualifications
  • Deposition and mediation experience, including conducting witness examinations and participating in settlement negotiations.
  • Experience handling depositions, mediations, and hearings.
  • Strong relationship-building, organizational, initiative, and professionalism skills for independently managing a busy caseload.
