  • Demonstrated experience leading FDA and EMA biologics CMC Health Authority meetings, including Biologics Product Development meetings and pre-BLA meetings, and strategically managing CMC deficiency letter responses.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ICH Q8, Q9, Q10, Q11, Q12, and Q13 guidelines, FDA biologics CMC guidance, including CDER and CBER guidance for therapeutic biologics, and EMA quality guidance applicable to monoclonal antibodies and other biological entities.
  • Proven experience managing biologics-specific CMC regulatory challenges, including comparability study strategy, reference standard lifecycle management, specification negotiation, and extended characterization regulatory justification.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, resource-constrained biotechnology or pharmaceutical environment.
  • Proven track record of influencing without authority across organizational boundaries, driving alignment among senior stakeholders, and building consensus on complex regulatory or scientific priorities.
  • Experience navigating organizational ambiguity and change, defining structure, establishing priorities, and scaling functional capabilities in alignment with evolving corporate strategy.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead the CMC regulatory strategy for all biologics assets in the immunology and inflammation portfolio from IND/CTA through BLA and MAA filing, including post-approval lifecycle management and labeling strategy for drug substance and drug product.
  • Author, review, and oversee the preparation of biologics CMC sections of global regulatory submissions in ICH CTD format, including INDs/CTAs, BLAs, MAAs, supplements, and post-approval variations, with accountability for scientific quality, completeness, and regulatory defensibility.
  • Serve as the company's primary regulatory authority and strategic partner for biologics Process Development, Upstream and Downstream Manufacturing Sciences, Analytical Development, Formulation, and Quality functions on CMC regulatory matters.
  • Lead Health Authority interactions related to biologics CMC topics, including FDA Type B and Type C meetings, BPD meetings, EMA Scientific Advice meetings, and written responses to CMC deficiency letters and information requests from global regulatory agencies.
  • Provide expert regulatory interpretation of FDA and EMA biologics CMC guidance documents and ICH Q-series guidelines applicable to large molecules, and advise development teams on process characterization, comparability, and control-strategy regulatory acceptability.
  • Lead post-approval CMC change-management strategy for biologics programs, including PACMP development, Prior Approval Supplements, CBE filings, and EU/global variation submissions related to manufacturing-process changes, site changes, and analytical-method updates.
  • Oversee regulatory aspects of biologics technology-transfer activities, including biosimilar comparability assessments, new CMO site qualification, and regulatory filing strategies for site-to-site manufacturing transfers.
  • Provide regulatory guidance on biologics-specific CMC considerations, including cell-line development, cell banking, upstream and downstream process validation, biophysical and functional characterization, and extended characterization strategies.
  • Contribute to regulatory due-diligence evaluations of biologics licensing candidates or acquisition targets by assessing CMC regulatory risk, comparability-study adequacy, and submission readiness.
  • Track CMC regulatory deliverables and submission timelines across all biologics programs, proactively identifying dependencies, risks, and upcoming milestones to keep cross-functional teams aligned and submission-ready.
  • Act as an integrated partner within the CMC team by attending key technical meetings, engaging daily with Process Development, Analytical, Manufacturing Sciences, Drug Supply, and Quality colleagues, and translating regulatory strategy into practical guidance.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • An advanced degree—PhD, Master of Science, or Doctor of Pharmacy—in biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmaceutical sciences, immunology, or a related biologics-relevant discipline, or equivalent years of experience.
  • Entrepreneurial drive and resourcefulness in executing CMC regulatory responsibilities, including proactively seeking information, building relationships across the CMC organization, and removing barriers through initiative and ownership.

Beeline Medicines is a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on precision therapies for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, formed after in-licensing five programs from Bristol Myers Squibb with a $300 million Series A led by Bain Capital. Its lead programs include afimetoran, an oral lupus therapy that inhibits TLR7 and TLR8, lomedeucitinib, an allosteric TYK2 inhibitor, and two IND-stage biologics targeting IL-18 and IL-10 pathways. The drugs work by modulating specific immune signaling pathways to reduce inflammation, with afimetoran designed to address lupus drivers. The company differentiates itself by using in-licensed assets from a major pharma partner and combining them with an experienced leadership team to push multiple programs toward pivotal trials, starting with Phase 2 for afimetoran targeted for late 2026.

What believers are saying

  • Beeline closed a $126.3 million extension on June 30, 2026, reaching $426.3 million.
  • FDA Fast Track for afimetoran in May 2025 accelerates regulatory interaction.
  • Management plans several clinical starts within 12 months, expanding catalysts beyond lupus.

What critics are saying

  • Afimetoran’s Phase 2 lupus readout in H2 2026 is the company’s make-or-break catalyst.
  • Failure versus Benlysta, Saphnelo, and competing lupus drugs kills the pivotal plan.
  • Five BMS-origin assets concentrate scientific risk; one bad readout can crush financing appetite.

What makes Beeline Medicines unique

  • BMS licensed five programs to Beeline in 2025, de-risking discovery.
  • Afimetoran targets TLR7/8, an upstream lupus mechanism unlike downstream cytokine biologics.
  • Saqib Islam and SpringWorks veterans bring repeatable biotech execution and exit experience.

BMS-backed Beeline raises $126M series A extension for autoimmune programs

Beeline Medicines has raised $126.3 million in a Series A extension, just two and a half months after emerging from stealth with $300 million in funding and five autoimmune programmes from Bristol Myers Squibb. The biotech startup, backed by BMS, is developing treatments targeting autoimmune diseases. The additional funding comes as the company rapidly advances its pipeline following its December debut. Details about the extension round's investors and the company's specific plans for the new capital were not disclosed.

Beeline debuts with $300M and immune drugs licensed from Bristol Myers

Beeline Medicines emerged from stealth with $300 million in Series A funding from Bain Capital to develop precision therapies for immune diseases. The company's pipeline includes five experimental medicines licensed from Bristol Myers Squibb nearly a year ago. Beeline's lead asset is afimetoran, a daily oral treatment for systemic lupus erythematosus targeting immune system receptors. A Phase 2 study is expected to complete in the second half of this year, with a pivotal programme planned thereafter. The pipeline also includes candidates for atopic dermatitis, lupus and plaque psoriasis, plus two preclinical assets. Saqib Islam, former CEO of SpringWorks Therapeutics, leads the company. Bain Capital previously backed Cerevel Therapeutics, acquired by AbbVie for nearly $9 billion, and Aiolos Bio, purchased by GSK.
