  • A high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) credential is required.
  • No prior experience is necessary.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and general computer operations is required.
  • Access to a phone at all times and the ability to complete basic mathematical calculations are required.
  • The employee must be able to perform frequent standing, walking, sitting, handling, fingering, reaching, squatting or kneeling, and bending, with occasional climbing and crawling.
  • The employee must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds occasionally and push or pull up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • The employee must have near, distance, color, peripheral, and depth-perception vision; hearing sufficient for emergency sounds, intercoms, and fan motors; and functioning senses of smell, taste, and touch.
  • The employee must be able to wear personal protective equipment, including a back belt when lifting or handling heavy products or objects.
  • The employee is subject to pre-employment background and drug screening.
Responsibilities
  • Assume full responsibility for store operations in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Directly supervise store employees and managers, assign employees to specific duties, and direct work involving sales, inventory, cash reconciliation, and customer service.
  • Provide customer service by greeting and assisting customers and responding professionally to inquiries and complaints.
  • Monitor sales activities to ensure satisfactory service and quality goods.
  • Inventory stock, reorder merchandise when inventory reaches specified levels, and share responsibility for controlling store inventory.
  • Maintain records of purchases, sales, requisitions, employee schedules, time cards, inventory, and sales activity.
  • Enforce safety, health, security, and company rules and regulations.
  • Inspect products and merchandise for condition, pricing, display accuracy, and functionality.
  • Hire, train, evaluate, promote, demote, and terminate personnel when appropriate, and assist the Store Manager with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, measuring, evaluating, corrective action, demotions, and terminations.
  • Perform subordinate work such as cleaning and organizing shelves and displays and selling merchandise.
  • Establish and implement department policies, goals, objectives, and procedures.
  • Instruct staff on handling difficult and complicated sales.
  • Formulate merchandise pricing policies according to profitability requirements.
  • Estimate consumer demand and determine the types and quantities of goods to sell.
  • Plan and prepare work schedules and maintain employee schedule and time-card records.
  • Prepare reports from inventory and sales records for management and budget departments.
  • Confer with company officials to develop methods and procedures to increase sales, expand markets, and promote business.
  • Plan budgets and authorize payments and merchandise returns.
  • Operate shifts within company guidelines to achieve sales and profit objectives.
  • Assist the Store Manager with employee productivity, sales and profit objectives, expense control, company property, store records, communication, work schedules, customer image, theft prevention, customer complaints, merchandise displays, and knowledge of local competition.
  • Accurately record work hours, sales, markups, markdowns, spoilage, and store-use merchandise.
  • In the absence of the Store Manager, organize, calculate, and enter daily sales information for the corporate office.
  • Close out payroll accurately and prepare or ensure completion of end-of-week and end-of-year reports.
  • Advise the Store Manager or supervisor of personnel situations and policy violations and maintain employee warning notices.
  • Train new employees on each shift and ensure employees understand and follow company policies and procedures.
  • Notify the Store Manager or supervisor if the daily bank deposit is not made, maintain a low cash drawer, use the safe as instructed, keep the safe locked, and complete shift-checkout reports.
  • Enforce vendor check-in procedures and assist with ordering and maintaining merchandise to prevent out-of-stocks.
  • Maintain coolers, shelves, and displays by keeping them full and fronted.
  • Clean and maintain store equipment, prepare and maintain perishable foods, clean the parking lot and surrounding grounds, sweep and mop floors, dust shelves, and remove trash.
  • Unload stock trucks.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Store Manager or Assistant Manager.
