"Steven Guilbeault has established himself as one of the most influential voices on environmental issues in Québec, in Canada, and on the international stage as an activist, rallying figure and decision-maker. At the invitation of Canada's Environment Minister, Nature Canada's Director of Policy, Akaash Maharaj has officially joined the Canadian Environment Domestic Advisory Group (CEDAG). CEDAG is a body of independent, volunteer experts tasked with advising the federal government on meeting its environmental obligations under the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). Akaash has accepted this appointment to ensure that international trade law serves as a shield for ecosystems, rather than a justification for environmental degradation. "To protect both our democratic and economic sovereignty, Canada must urgently diversify our international trade relationships and dilute the coercive economic influence that any single foreign market can wield over our domestic choices," says Akaash. "We must preferentially expand trade with partners like the European Union that share our broad national ideals, including a fundamental commitment to caring for nature." This move comes after a long, successful career spanning more than 11 years as a Project Environmental Scientist at Arcadis. He brings extensive hands-on experience in field project management, supervising environmental services (such as drilling, monitoring well installations, and remedial excavations), low-flow groundwater sampling, ecological assessments, and interpreting complex laboratory data. At AtkinsRéalis, the site assessment and remediation teams typically focus on managing environmental liabilities, performing risk assessments, and supporting major infrastructure, transportation, and clean energy projects across Ontario. Michelle Christopherson is starting a new position as National Practice Lead - Supply Chain Decarbonization and Risk at WSP in Canada, a major global professional services and engineering consulting firm. They specialize in strategic environmental, climate resilience, and infrastructure advisory services. As the Practice Lead, her work centers on making greenhouse gas emissions across the corporate value chain visible and actionable. This involves overseeing Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs), analyzing embodied carbon, and developing sustainable procurement strategies to reduce upstream climate risks. Active Earth is welcoming back Jane Pirie, a Professional Engineer with over seven years of experience in environmental consulting. She has experience in both the field, completing environmental monitoring and conducting soil, water, soil vapour, and air quality sampling, and the office, preparing technical reports and managing projects. Jane is committed to mentoring junior staff, providing exceptional client service, and delivering practical, effective solutions that support project success. Her technical expertise includes contaminated sites and ensuring environmental compliance throughout the development process. Jane is returning to Active Earth after spending the last year taking some time off to travel. She spent much of the last year living and working in Japan with her partner, staying with local homestays and working at a ski lodge in Madarao. Natalya Guttin has joined Milestone Environmental Contracting to lead its national proposal program. Based in Ontario, she brings more than 15 years of experience managing complex pursuits and proposals across the environmental, infrastructure and public sectors, with particular expertise in federal procurement. Natalya will work closely with Milestone's business development, operations and technical teams across Canada to strengthen pursuit strategies, improve proposal processes and deliver clear, compliant and client-focused submissions. Her focus will be on building consistent practices that support stronger collaboration across the organization. AGAT Laboratories has announced the appointment of Kelly Howard to Market Sector Lead - Environmental within AGAT's Environmental Division. In this role, Kelly will provide strategic leadership across key environmental market sectors, working closely with national clients, regional sales teams, and operational leaders to drive growth, strengthen client relationships, and enhance service delivery across AGAT's laboratory network. Kelly brings more than two decades of experience with AGAT Laboratories and has built an exceptional career supporting the growth and evolution of the company's environmental services. Throughout her tenure, she has held a number of leadership roles across business development, national accounts, and marketing, developing a deep understanding of the environmental and energy sectors and the complex needs of clients operating within them. In her new role, Kelly will take a hands-on leadership role in supporting major key accounts while driving sales growth across AGAT's environmental portfolio. Sonia Rankin has started her new role as a Senior Environmental Planner at Egis Canada. Based in the Greater Toronto Area, Sonia specializes in environmental impact assessments, regulatory compliance, and infrastructure infrastructure projects. Her career history includes a long tenure at global engineering firm AECOM, where she notably worked on large-scale public initiatives such as the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and Infrastructure Ontario (IO) bridge and highway design projects. Egis provides extensive consulting, infrastructure engineering, and project operations globally across 70+ countries. The Ensero Solutions team has welcomed Raghwendra Narayan Shandilya as a Hydrogeologist. With a strong academic background in hydrogeology and groundwater, Raghwendra brings extensive knowledge and technical expertise to support hydrogeological work across Ensero's projects. He holds a PhD in Hydrogeology, a Master's in Groundwater and Global Change, and degrees in Geology. Jeff Read started his new role as an Area Geologist at Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL). Before transitioning to this Calgary-based position at CNRL, he worked as a Senior Geologist at Sio Silica Corporation and a Natural Resources Specialist for the Government of Manitoba. Stonard joins WSP from Costain, where he held senior positions across the water sector and worked on major programmes, collaborative delivery models and innovation-led approaches to capital delivery. His background spans consultancy, construction and client-side roles across the UK water industry. Gavin Stonard joins WSP water leadership team. As Managing Director for Water, Gavin Stonard will lead WSP's UK & Ireland water business as the sector moves through the current AMP8 investment period. UK water companies are now delivering their AMP8 programmes, covering the 2025-2030 regulatory period and encompassing major investment in water and wastewater infrastructure. WSP's existing UK water activities include water-resource planning, wastewater engineering, asset management, infrastructure resilience and digital approaches to capital delivery. The consultancy has also worked with utilities including Northern Ireland Water and Severn Trent on resilience, treatment and digital engineering initiatives. WSP awarded design contract for King Fahd International Airport expansion. WSP wins design contract for King Fahd International Airport's expansion, targeting capacity for 32 million passengers a year. Dammam Airports Company (DACO) has signed a design services contract with WSP to support the expansion of King Fahd International Airport (KFIA), the Eastern Province's main air gateway. The agreement was signed by Eng. Mohammed Al-Hassany, CEO of Dammam Airports, and Dean McGrail, President of WSP for the Middle East and Asia. Under the contract, WSP will deliver comprehensive design services covering passenger terminal expansions and upgrades, improvements to the airport's entrance and access roads, baggage handling systems, digital passenger services and terminal wayfinding, as well as enhancements to runway and general aviation facilities and wider operational systems. The expansion is designed to lift KFIA's capacity well beyond its current traffic levels. The airport handled 13.7 million passengers in 2025, making it Saudi Arabia's third-busiest, and the project targets capacity for 19.3 million passengers annually by 2030, rising to 32 million in the long term. Cargo capacity is set to expand to more than 600,000 tonnes a year, with the airport designed to support up to 77 aircraft movements an hour. Eng. Al-Hassany said the agreement marks an important step in the development journey of King Fahd International Airport, adding that the project aims to deliver a smoother, higher-quality travel experience through modern design and smart technologies while supporting future growth in air travel and cargo. The design work will also incorporate a sustainability focus, with an emphasis on energy efficiency, reduced environmental impact and infrastructure resilience. It follows a SR1.2 billion package of additional airport infrastructure agreements signed in June 2026, and forms part of the wider push under Saudi Arabia's Aviation Programme and Vision 2030 to position KFIA as a major regional gateway for the Eastern Province.
